TC Electronic has reissued the first effects pedal they ever made — the legendary Stereo Chorus Flanger! Introduced all the way back in 1976, the original SCF was adored for its rich, watery modulation sounds and low-noise design; enjoying an astounding 40 years of production. Now, the iconic stompbox is back and better than ever before to celebrate TC Electronic's 45th anniversary.

The new SCF Gold is faithful to the original; retaining the unique chassis design and, more crucially, the all-analogue BBD circuity that yields the crisp chorus and flavourful flanger tones that made the effects unit so famous. However, a number of improvements make this reissued version a much easier pedal to integrate into your setup — now boasting a standard 9V power input for use with most modern pedal power supplies!

Key Features

  • Legendary analogue modulation pedal with chorus, flange and pitch modes.
  • Original BBD (bucket-brigade device) circuit used by world-renowned artists.
  • Updated with a standard 9V DC power socket for convenient use with your pedalboard PSU.
  • High-fidelity analogue preamp with increased headroom and improved low-frequency response.
  • Adjustable input gain with clip indicator provides versatility for use with any instrument.
  • Mind-blowing signal-to-noise ratio. SCF is completely quiet in regards to unwanted noise!
  • Dual outputs split your signal, providing a huge stereo spread and unique spacial dimension.

Flanger

A flanger is a type of guitar effects pedal used to create a swirling, whooshing sound by modulating the phase of an audio signal. It works by combining the original signal with a slightly delayed and modulated version of itself. As the two signals interact, they create peaks and troughs in the frequency spectrum, resulting in the characteristic “jet plane” or “swooshing” sound associated with flanging.

Key features of a flanger pedal include:

1. **Rate**: Controls the speed at which the delayed signal is modulated. Higher rates produce faster modulation, while lower rates create slower, more subtle effects.

2. **Depth**: Adjusts the intensity of the modulation effect. Higher depth settings result in more pronounced sweeps, while lower settings produce a gentler effect.

3. **Manual (or Range)**: Sets the center frequency of the modulation. This control allows you to focus the effect on specific frequency ranges, altering the tonal character of the flanging.

4. **Feedback (or Regeneration)**: Determines the amount of modulated signal that is fed back into the effect. Increasing feedback can create more pronounced peaks and troughs, resulting in a more intense effect.

Flanger pedals are commonly used in various music genres, including rock, metal, and psychedelic music, to add movement, depth, and texture to guitar tones. They can be used subtly to add a touch of modulation and dimension to a guitar sound, or more prominently to create dramatic swirling effects. Overall, flanger pedals offer guitarists a versatile tool for shaping and enhancing their tone, adding a dynamic and expressive element to their playing.

Pitch

Pitch pedals alter the frequency of your guitar signal, changing the perceived note or adding harmony. They can shift notes up or down by fixed intervals, create harmonies, or produce dive-bomb and whammy-style effects without a tremolo arm. Pitch shifters and harmonisers are great for thickening solos, simulating multiple guitars, or experimenting with creative, otherworldly sounds that expand your tonal range.

Preamp

A preamp pedal shapes and boosts your guitar’s signal before it reaches your amp or recording interface, giving you control over tone, gain, and headroom. It acts as the first stage of amplification, adding warmth, clarity, and character while preparing your signal for the next part of the chain. Some preamps emulate the response of classic valve circuits, while others offer clean, transparent tone shaping ideal for acoustic instruments or direct recording setups.

Used on its own, a preamp pedal can serve as the foundation of your tone, providing a consistent core sound wherever you play. When combined with other effects, it enhances dynamics and helps each pedal sound more defined and natural. Whether you’re looking to push your amp harder, bring life to a dull signal, or refine your sound for the studio, a good preamp pedal adds presence, punch, and musicality to any rig.
