Tone

Tone describes the overall character and quality of a sound. In guitar and music gear terms, it’s the combination of frequency balance, dynamics, sustain, and feel that makes a sound warm, bright, dark, aggressive, smooth, or anything in between. Tone is shaped by many factors, including the instrument, pickups, amplifier, effects, playing style, and even touch, which is why it’s such a personal and much-discussed part of making music.
