The Fluff Drive is the first-ever signature pedal from Warm Audio and Ryan “Fluff” Bruce — and it absolutely rips! This is Fluff’s take on a screaming overdrive we all know and love, but rebuilt from the ground up for modern metal and high‑gain mayhem.

Inspired by an iconic ‘80s circuit, the Warm Audio Fluff Drive packs in a bunch of killer tweaks: a modded low boost for a punchier bass response, a switchable pre/post mid enhance placement for easy tone‑shaping, plus a fully variable noise gate to keep your chugs razor‑tight. There’s even a voltage boost for extra headroom before things start to saturate. It’s the sound of a beloved classic — just meaner, cleaner and absolutely metal‑approved.

Under the hood, Warm Audio have gone full‑fat with premium analogue components like JRC4558 op‑amps, discrete transistors, JFETs and an internal voltage doubler. Translation? This thing is ready to take your tone up several notches!

Who is Ryan “Fluff” Bruce?

Ryan Bruce is a guitarist, producer and the face behind Riffs, Beards & Gear — one of the biggest and most trusted heavy‑music gear channels on the planet. His magic combo of humour and no‑nonsense tone talk has earned him a massive following of players who rely on his honest reviews, deep‑dive demos and real‑world rig wisdom. Outside of YouTube, Fluff is a touring musician, recording artist and all‑around gear fanatic who’s spent years testing thousands of pedals, amps and studio toys.

Ryan Bruce on his signature Fluff Drive pedal

“I’ve tested a ridiculous number of pedals over the years, so when it came time to do a signature drive, I knew I needed a partner who actually cares about components and understands what makes the legendary circuits legendary. Warm Audio was that perfect partner,” said Ryan “Fluff” Bruce. “They’re obsessed with the details and are circuit-obsessed enough to dig deep into every diode and resistor, but also experienced enough to help me nail the classic sound players expect.”

Fluff continues, “Together with them, I wanted to fix every issue I’ve ever had dialling in metal tones on similar pedals or even the original. Warm Audio worked with me on even the tiniest modification until the pedal did exactly what I always wished those circuits would do. The Fluff Drive is the result: the classic vibe, but with the ideal controls for metal implemented the way I’ve always wanted.”

Recommended settings & routing

  • Gain down, level dimed in-front of a high-gain amp.
  • Medium gain in front of a mid/British-gain amp.
  • Behind a high-gain pedal with added gain and the gate engaged (to prevent harsh noise).

Key Features

  • First signature pedal from Fluff & Warm Audio: The Fluff Drive marks Warm Audio’s debut signature pedal, created with Ryan “Fluff” Bruce — the trusted voice behind Riffs, Beards & Gear. After putting thousands of drives through their paces, Fluff helped refine this iconic ’80s high‑gain circuit with the tweaks modern metal players crave: tighter lows, aggressive mids and instant mix‑ready clarity.
  • A modern high‑gain essential: The Fluff Drive is Ryan Bruce’s perfected take on the classic screaming overdrive that metal and hardcore players rely on to tighten amps and unleash controlled chaos. It slams your amp’s front end for rich, tube‑driven saturation that goes way beyond stock preamp gain.
  • Mods made for metal: Warm Audio and Fluff added features tailored specifically for today’s high‑gain guitars and tunings. A tightened low‑boost keeps extended‑range and down‑tuned riffs precise. The mid‑enhance switch lets you choose pre or post‑gain placement for flexible sculpting. A variable noise gate adapts from fluid leads to bone‑dry chugs, while 18V mode increases headroom for sharper, clearer gain.
  • Premium components, 100% analogue circuitry: Inside, the Fluff Drive stays true to its heritage with JRC4558 op‑amps and discrete transistors, while adding modern upgrades like an internal voltage doubler and an analogue noise gate — features never found on the original Japanese units.

Overdrive

Like a golden layer of melted cheese — warm, gooey, and just put it all over. It adds just the right amount of richness and grit, turning a clean signal into something smooth and savoury. Designed to mimic the natural breakup of a tube amp pushed to its sweet spot, overdrive delivers the flavour of classic rock and blues in every bite. From creamy mid-gain warmth to crisp edge-of-breakup sparkle, it’s the comfort food of guitar tone — simple, satisfying, and endlessly versatile. Whether it’s a mild crunch or a full-bodied roar, overdrive is where good taste begins.

Preamp

A preamp pedal shapes and boosts your guitar’s signal before it reaches your amp or recording interface, giving you control over tone, gain, and headroom. It acts as the first stage of amplification, adding warmth, clarity, and character while preparing your signal for the next part of the chain. Some preamps emulate the response of classic valve circuits, while others offer clean, transparent tone shaping ideal for acoustic instruments or direct recording setups.

Used on its own, a preamp pedal can serve as the foundation of your tone, providing a consistent core sound wherever you play. When combined with other effects, it enhances dynamics and helps each pedal sound more defined and natural. Whether you’re looking to push your amp harder, bring life to a dull signal, or refine your sound for the studio, a good preamp pedal adds presence, punch, and musicality to any rig.
