"It's not the size that matters, it's what you do with it." That's what Darkglass say about their compact B1K pedal! Packing the legendary bass distortion circuit for which they are known into a portable, functional and pedalboard-friendly form-factor — the no-frills B1K delivers massive gain tones despite its small proportions.

Simple, tactile controls allow you to dial-in a variety of inspiring overdrive flavours. The dual-concentric 'Drive' and 'Level' knobs on the face of the pedal have a wide sonic range, while internally, you have 'Tone' and 'Blend' trim-pots which provide you with ample control over the distortion EQ and the balance between your clean signal and the overdrive.

Controls

  • Level (front): Sets the volume of the overdriven signal.
  • Drive (front): Adjusts the amount of saturation in the overdriven signal.
  • Blend (back): Mixes the clean input signal with the overdriven signal. The clean signal is fixed at unity gain, while the volume of the overdriven signal is set by the Level knob, allowing for fine control of the blend ratio. Turn clockwise to blend in the clean signal.
  • Tone (back): Controls the high frequency content of the sound. A variable low pass filter from 3 kHz to 8 kHz. Turn CCW for a brighter sound.
  • MBoost (back): Gives a subtle 6 dB boost from 300 Hz to 1 kHz to help you cut through the mix.
  • Grunt (back): Provides a low-end boost to massively thicken your sound when engaged.

Overdrive pedals add warmth, grit and amplifier-like breakup to your guitar tone. They can be used as a light always-on tone enhancer, a bluesy crunch box, a mid-focused solo boost or a way to push a valve amp into richer saturation.

Different overdrive circuits have very different personalities, from transparent low-gain pedals to classic mid-hump designs and heavier modern drives. They are one of the most important pedal types because they respond to picking dynamics, guitar volume and the character of your amplifier.
