The Walrus Audio Fable MKII Granular Soundscape Generator is a stereo ambient powerhouse that fuses lush delays with advanced granular processing. Five dual-effect algorithms, deep modulation, MIDI control and onboard presets let you move effortlessly from smooth cinematic washes to shattered, glitchy clouds and pitch-warped chaos, all in a compact pedalboard-friendly enclosure. At its heart, Fable MKII runs your signal through two effects in series, each with its own feedback path. Instead of simple repeats, your sound continually evolves as it cycles through reverse delays, octave-shifted grains, multi-tap textures and randomised pitch fragments. Whether you are scoring, sound designing or pushing your band’s intros and outros into otherworldly territory, this pedal gives you a huge, controllable palette of stereo ambience. Built on Walrus Audio’s in-house MDSP platform, the Fable MKII delivers high-fidelity audio with the flexibility modern players expect. Tap tempo, momentary Dive / Rise, assignable expression, MIDI clock sync and 127 MIDI presets make it equally at home on a compact live board or a fully integrated studio rig. Choose the sleek black finish with Niall Grant’s artwork and drop a storybook of evolving textures at your feet. Dual Feedback Paths for Evolving Textures The Fable MKII routes your signal through two effects in series, each with its own feedback control via the Feedback and Regen knobs. Instead of a static loop of repeats, the sound passes back through both processors again and again, morphing into smooth ambience, organic reverberance or dense, glitchy swarms. You can keep things subtle and supportive, or push the feedback for wild, self-developing soundscapes that never quite repeat the same way twice. Five Granular Modes, From Reverse Washes to Glitchy Clouds Five carefully voiced modes pair delay and granular processing in different ways, so you can quickly land on a texture that fits the track. Reverse into reverse grains, octave-up cascades, octave-down thunder, dual multi-tap Grain-Verb and randomised pitch grains are all on tap. Each mode explores a different side of granular processing, from long reversed swells to fractured, time-stretched atmospheres, without needing a degree in DSP to dial them in. Deep Control with Tweak, Tap and Expression The Tweak system gives one knob five powerful jobs: stereo Width, Mod Rate, Mod Shape, Shift and Ramp. Combined with tap tempo and the momentary Dive / Rise function, you can pull off dramatic pitch dives, slow-motion rises and evolving modulation sweeps on the fly. Assign any control to an expression pedal for hands-free morphing between settings, or repurpose the jack as an external tap input to keep your whole board locked to the same tempo. MIDI, Presets and Stereo for Modern Rigs With three onboard presets plus a live mode, the Fable MKII lets you store your favourite patches for instant recall mid-set. Hook up MIDI via 3.5 mm TRS to unlock up to 127 presets, full CC control of every knob, mode selection, bypass and tap tempo, as well as MIDI clock synchronisation. Dual inputs and outputs provide true stereo or mono-in / stereo-out operation, while selectable Trails or No Trails bypass lets you decide whether your soundscapes fade naturally or stop dead. Key Features Five Dual-Effect Granular Algorithms – Explore reverse delay into reverse grains, octave-up and octave-down granular textures, dual multi-tap Grain-Verb and randomised pitch modes. Each algorithm combines delay and granular processing in series, giving you a wide range of ambient, cinematic and experimental sounds from one pedal. Independent Feedback and Regen Paths – Separate Feedback and Regen controls manage the two effect feedback loops individually. This lets you balance classic delay repeats against more extreme granular tails, or push both into complex, evolving soundscapes that feel alive under your fingers. Walrus Audio

Walrus Audio describes itself as a collective of artists, musicians and engineers, bringing circuit design together with distinctive pedal artwork. The company says its effects are hand-built and manufactured in the USA. JustPedals listings illustrate the variety: ARP-87 multi-function delay, Slö ambient reverb, Julia analog chorus and vibrato, and Polychrome flanger. Some models focus on direct, compact controls, while others provide broader modulation or atmospheric textures. Compare each model’s modes, stereo connections and control options; the artwork is a signature of the brand, while the circuit determines how it fits a rig.

Category

Specialist Effects Pedals

Specialist effects alter the signal in ways that do not sit cleanly inside one established family. They may use granular processing, frequency shifting, resonators, freeze or sustain, bit reduction, ring modulation, feedback networks or combinations of several techniques. The relevant distinction is the underlying process, its tracking or latency, and how completely the dry signal can be blended or replaced.

Tags

MIDI

Sends, receives or responds to Musical Instrument Digital Interface messages rather than carrying the instrument audio itself. Program changes recall presets, continuous controllers move parameters, and MIDI clock or transport messages synchronise timing between devices.

Presets

Stores complete groups of parameter values for later recall. The number of locations, switching time, spillover behaviour and whether presets include routing, expression and MIDI assignments determine how completely one sound can change into another.

Stereo

Processes, creates or passes two audio channels. True stereo preserves separate left and right inputs, while mono-to-stereo effects generate spatial differences internally; routing, phase behaviour and whether trails remain stereo determine the resulting image. Some outputs sum to mono when only one socket is connected, which can change level or modulation depth.

Tap Tempo

Measures repeated foot taps and converts their interval into an effect rate or delay time. Subdivisions translate that pulse into dotted, triplet or other rhythmic values, while averaging and range limits influence how quickly and accurately the tempo settles.
