The Imperial All-Tube Preamp pedal delivers Tone King’s legendary MKII amplifier’s ’50s tweed, ’60s blackface, and vintage British rock tones in a compact, pedalboard-friendly format. It features the exact preamp section and phase inverter circuitry of the Imperial MKII amp, as well as Reverb, Tremolo and Attenuation, resulting in a pedal that sings with harmonic richness and blooming touch response.

Powered by three 12AX7 preamp tubes running at high voltage, this preamp delivers the amp’s sound, responsiveness, and exquisite interaction with your pickups and effects. The onboard, low-latency impulse response (IR) loader (per channel), Headphones, easy integration and expansion with your existing gear, and MIDI capabilities, takes these iconic tones into the new era of guitar playing.

Key Features

  • 2-Channel High-Voltage Preamp/DI: Whether it’s used as a stand-alone guitar amplifier straight into a PA or FRFR cab with its built-in Impulse Responses, or as a channel expansion to your current effects loop-equipped amp or even as a headphone practice amp or recording tool, the Imperial Preamp has every base covered!
  • Built-in Tremolo & Reverb: Like many of the most revered American valve amps, the Imperial comes equipped with Reverb and Tremolo for a truly authentic valve amp experience and tone.
  • MIDI Programmable: Save up to 128 presets and recall via MIDI for hands-free control of channel selection, IR settings, FX Loop bypass and Reverb and Tremolo settings.
  • Go Further: Fine-tune your tone even further with the Tone King Editor Software, powered by Synergy!

Rhythm and Lead

The Imperial Preamp Pedal features two distinct channels, each mirroring the ’50s and ’60s flavors of the Imperial MKII.

  • The Rhythm Channel evokes the essence of a classic ’60s blackface combo’s pristine cleans with a touch-sensitive response that transitions smoothly into overdrive.
  • The Lead Channel is inspired by the iconic tweed amps of the ’50s’ with the ability to glide between warm articulate cleans and aggressive midrange bark. This channel’s Mid-Bite control adds a further layer of tone shaping, focusing the low-end, while adding high-end presence and gain for a British-flavored rock crunch.

Zero Watt Valve Power Amp

The Imperial Pre-Amp Pedal includes the exact phase inverter circuitry of the actual Imperial MKII amp, utilizing one of its three 12AX7 tubes. This built-in “0 watt power amp” authentically provides the harmonic and dynamic content of the Tone King power amp section. This revolutionary design is the cornerstone that delivers the ENTIRE Imperial MKII experience right on your pedal board.

IR

The Imperial Preamp pedal’s low latency IR and power amp simulation technology delivers its tube tones directly to the front of house or your interface. That’s especially evident in the 15 included OwnHammer-made IRs. Each channel has three of our favorites, preloaded, and selectable via dual 3-way toggle switches.

  • OH 112 Imperial TK1660: Tone King 1660 speaker in a Tone King Imperial 1×12 combo. Captured using a Shure SM57, a Neumann U87, and a Royer 121 through ’70s API 312 preamps.
  • OH 212 Class A Blue: Celestion Blues from 1963 in a Vox AC30 2×12 combo. Captured using a Shure SM57, a Neumann U87, and a Royer 121 through ’70s API 312 preamps.
  • OH 412 Basketweave M25: Celestion G12M-25 speakers from 1971 in a basket-weave 1960B 4×12 cabinet. Captured using a Shure SM57, Telefunken MD421, and Royer 121.

There are 12 additional IRs to choose from in the included Tone King Editor software (powered by Synergy) which are easy to swap in and out of the pedal’s six available slots. You can also disengage the onboard IR loader entirely to use the preamp with an external IR loader or powered cabinet.

Tone King Editor Software & Firmware: Version 5

Thanks to their partnership with Synergy, the latest version of the Tone King Editor software and firmware means you can get even more out of this amazing preamp:

  • Per-channel high-pass filter: You can now set a custom bass-cut (high-pass) filter for each channel and preset (just like you already can with the low-pass filter).
  • IR selection in bypass: A new IR-on-bypass option lets you choose which impulse response stays active when the pedal is bypassed (for use with external amps).
  • Auto mono to amp return: The To Amp Return output now automatically sums stereo signals to mono, so effects in the loop always run properly in mono (when looping external amps).
  • Mono output option for XLR: A new Mono button lets you sum the XLR outputs to mono using either Left or Right, even when running stereo effects.

Guitar Pedals

Your pedal is like a signature dish for your sound — a flavour-packed creation that transforms the bland ingredients of your guitar into something unforgettable. Each one adds its own seasoning, texture, and heat, turning a simple meal into a feast of tone.

These tasty little boxes sit in a row, like plates on a buffet, letting you mix and match flavours as you play. With one tap of your foot, you can swap sweet for spicy, subtle for smoky, and serve up something completely new. From the comfort food of warm overdrive to the fiery kick of fuzz, from smooth jazz sauce to heavy-metal spice, pedals give players a full menu of options to express their taste.  And just like with food, once you’ve tried one dish, you’ll want to sample them all.

Collecting, trading, and discovering new flavours soon becomes part of the joy of being a tone-loving gourmet geek with a guitar.

Looper

A looper pedal records and plays back sections of your playing, allowing you to layer sounds and build full arrangements on your own. By capturing short or long phrases, you can create rhythm parts, harmonies, or entire backing tracks in real time. Most loopers offer basic controls for record, overdub, and playback, while advanced models include multiple tracks, tempo syncing, and memory storage for saving your loops.

Loopers are invaluable for practice, songwriting, and live performance. They help you explore ideas, refine timing, and experiment with textures — from solo acoustic performances to complex ambient soundscapes. A good looper pedal becomes an instrument in itself, letting you improvise, arrange, and perform with creativity and freedom, turning one guitar into an entire band.

MIDI

MIDI pedals use the Musical Instrument Digital Interface standard to communicate with other guitar pedals, effects units, and hardware. They allow control over presets, parameters, and switching across multiple devices from a single controller. MIDI integration makes it possible to build complex, synchronised pedal setups while keeping control simple and consistent.

New

This is brand new, fresh in, and a UK warranty is included. New Gear always comes from trusted UK music retailers.

Overdrive

Like a golden layer of melted cheese — warm, gooey, and just put it all over. It adds just the right amount of richness and grit, turning a clean signal into something smooth and savoury. Designed to mimic the natural breakup of a tube amp pushed to its sweet spot, overdrive delivers the flavour of classic rock and blues in every bite. From creamy mid-gain warmth to crisp edge-of-breakup sparkle, it’s the comfort food of guitar tone — simple, satisfying, and endlessly versatile. Whether it’s a mild crunch or a full-bodied roar, overdrive is where good taste begins.

Preamp

A preamp pedal shapes and boosts your guitar’s signal before it reaches your amp or recording interface, giving you control over tone, gain, and headroom. It acts as the first stage of amplification, adding warmth, clarity, and character while preparing your signal for the next part of the chain. Some preamps emulate the response of classic valve circuits, while others offer clean, transparent tone shaping ideal for acoustic instruments or direct recording setups.

Used on its own, a preamp pedal can serve as the foundation of your tone, providing a consistent core sound wherever you play. When combined with other effects, it enhances dynamics and helps each pedal sound more defined and natural. Whether you’re looking to push your amp harder, bring life to a dull signal, or refine your sound for the studio, a good preamp pedal adds presence, punch, and musicality to any rig.

Reverb

A reverb pedal is like the rich sauce that ties every flavour on the plate into one smooth experience. It adds depth, warmth, and atmosphere — the sonic equivalent of a perfectly reduced glaze that lingers on the tongue. Whether you’re after the subtle ambience of a cosy café (spring or plate reverb) or the grand echoes of a cathedral (hall or shimmer reverb), this is where your tone breathes and expands. A touch of reverb can turn a dry sound into something lush and inviting — but pour on too much, and it’s all you can taste. Used with finesse, it’s the finishing touch that transforms your tone from plain to unforgettable.

Tremolo

A tremolo pedal modulates the volume of your guitar signal up and down in a rhythmic pattern, creating a pulsing or wavering effect that can sound vintage and hypnotic or sharp and choppy depending on the settings. It’s one of the oldest effects in guitar history, famously used on classic amps from the 1950s and ’60s.

Most tremolo pedals let you control the speed, depth, and wave shape, allowing you to go from smooth, subtle swells to intense stuttering tones. It’s a simple but expressive effect that adds movement and character to your sound.
