Here’s what Nobels say:

Nobels CHO-mini Compact Stereo Chorus Pedal The pocket-sized, yet feature packed, the Nobels CHO-mini pedal combines an outstanding selection of chorus tones, all in a budget-friendly and space-saving enclosure. With a heritage of building chorus units in the past, Nobels has engineered this all new pedal to offer maximum versatility, in a super compact package. Providing a skilfully curated selection of ageless chorus effects, CHO-mini delivers a wealth of sonic possibilities, with either a mono or spacious stereo image. The achievable tones are far beyond the pedal’s modest footprint and is an excellent addition to any type of setup.

Key Features

  • Stereo In Such A Small Pedal – Mini Stereo Chorus Pedal
  • Three Distinct Chorus Modes – Chorus 1, Chorus 2 and Flanging
  • Tap Tempo – Adjust the tempo with your foot so the chorus wave matches your music with ease.
  • Selectable Inputs & Outputs – Choose between Mono or Stereo (via TRS) inputs and outputs to integrate with your guitar rig simply.
  • True or Buffered Bypass – Selectable True or Buffered Trails Bypass modes
  • Glow in the Dark Pointer Knobs – Adjust your tone even on the darkest stages!
  • Rugged Chassis – Metal Enclosure

Three Distinct Choruses

The CHO-mini features three carefully crafted, yet distinct chorus flavours. All three modes faithfully capture those iconic modulation tones that have shaped music across genres, past and present and are simply selected by the pedal’s convenient mode switch, right on the face of the pedal. “Chorus 1” This emulates the coveted and well-established bucket-brigade style of chorus pedal tones from the 70s. You know “THAT” Chorus sound that is instantly recognisable from many popular recordings.

“Chorus 2” Based on a different flavour of stereo chorus, “Chorus 2” allows for a higher rate towards the end of the control range, enabling pleasing vibrato like textures. “Flanging” While not a flanger tone in a traditional sense, this mode emulates another extremely popular (and rare and expensive in its original form) chorus pedal from the 70s, in its subtle flanging mode.

Think of this as a comb-filter phasing of the signal (like feedback on a delay), focussing on its luscious general character and without becoming too extreme.

Tap Tempo

Adding to its flexibility, the CHO-mini features full tap tempo functionality, but in a single switch design. Simply holding the footswitch for approximately two seconds enters the pedal into “Tap Tempo Mode”, following which the pedal will respond to rhythmic tapping instantly.

Mono or Stereo?

Further defying expectations based on its compact appearance, there are dedicated toggles for selection between mono and stereo (TRS) operation as well as true or buffered bypass modes, making the pedal suitable for almost any musical situation, anywhere, any time. As with all other current Nobels pedals, the CHO-mini features 4 integrated Mounty-P Mounting Plates for safe and secure attachment to pedalboards. With its full metal enclosure and Glow in the Dark pointer knobs, the CHO-mini is a pint-sized powerhouse that’s built for performance!

Brand

Nobels

Nobels is a respected brand in the guitar pedal market, primarily known for their ODR-1 overdrive pedal, which has become a staple for players seeking a natural, amp-like overdrive sound. The ODR-1 is celebrated for its smooth distortion, making it a popular choice among guitarists in genres such as rock and country. It has gained a loyal following, with endorsements from notable artists like Michael Wagener and Robbie McIntosh, who have praised its tone and versatility.

The ODR-1 is available in various versions, including the ODR-mini and the ODR-S, each designed to offer different tonal possibilities. The ODR-S model is particularly appreciated for its three-band EQ, which provides greater control over the tonal shape compared to the standard model. Nobels’ pedals, including the ODR-1, are often recommended as alternatives to more well-known overdrive pedals like the Tube Screamer, offering a unique character with a focus on warmth and clarity.

Delay

A delay pedal records your signal and plays it back after a set time, creating echoes that can range from tight, slapback repeats to long, atmospheric trails. It’s one of the most versatile effects, used to thicken tones, add rhythmic depth, or build spacious, ambient layers. Analogue delays offer warm, decaying repeats that blend naturally with your tone, while digital units provide pristine echoes with precise control over time, feedback, and mix levels.

From classic rockabilly and tape-style echoes to modern looping and shimmer effects, delay pedals have become essential tools for shaping sound. They can make solos soar, rhythms pulse, or transform simple chord progressions into cinematic textures. Whether used subtly to add dimension or boldly to create soundscapes, a good delay pedal can completely redefine the feel and atmosphere of your music.

Flanger

A flanger is a type of guitar effects pedal used to create a swirling, whooshing sound by modulating the phase of an audio signal. It works by combining the original signal with a slightly delayed and modulated version of itself. As the two signals interact, they create peaks and troughs in the frequency spectrum, resulting in the characteristic “jet plane” or “swooshing” sound associated with flanging.

Key features of a flanger pedal include:

1. **Rate**: Controls the speed at which the delayed signal is modulated. Higher rates produce faster modulation, while lower rates create slower, more subtle effects.

2. **Depth**: Adjusts the intensity of the modulation effect. Higher depth settings result in more pronounced sweeps, while lower settings produce a gentler effect.

3. **Manual (or Range)**: Sets the center frequency of the modulation. This control allows you to focus the effect on specific frequency ranges, altering the tonal character of the flanging.

4. **Feedback (or Regeneration)**: Determines the amount of modulated signal that is fed back into the effect. Increasing feedback can create more pronounced peaks and troughs, resulting in a more intense effect.

Flanger pedals are commonly used in various music genres, including rock, metal, and psychedelic music, to add movement, depth, and texture to guitar tones. They can be used subtly to add a touch of modulation and dimension to a guitar sound, or more prominently to create dramatic swirling effects. Overall, flanger pedals offer guitarists a versatile tool for shaping and enhancing their tone, adding a dynamic and expressive element to their playing.

Guitar Pedals

Your pedal is like a signature dish for your sound — a flavour-packed creation that transforms the bland ingredients of your guitar into something unforgettable. Each one adds its own seasoning, texture, and heat, turning a simple meal into a feast of tone.

These tasty little boxes sit in a row, like plates on a buffet, letting you mix and match flavours as you play. With one tap of your foot, you can swap sweet for spicy, subtle for smoky, and serve up something completely new. From the comfort food of warm overdrive to the fiery kick of fuzz, from smooth jazz sauce to heavy-metal spice, pedals give players a full menu of options to express their taste.  And just like with food, once you’ve tried one dish, you’ll want to sample them all.

Collecting, trading, and discovering new flavours soon becomes part of the joy of being a tone-loving gourmet geek with a guitar.

Vibrato

Vibrato refers to a guitar pedal effect that modulates pitch slightly up and down, creating movement and a sense of wobble in the sound. Unlike tremolo, which changes volume, vibrato affects pitch only, producing anything from subtle shimmer to pronounced, warbling textures. It is often used to add character, depth, and vintage-style modulation to guitar tones.
