Here’s what Korg say

The Pitchblack X not only features a true bypass for outputting the sound exactly as it was input, but now includes a built-in ULTRA BUFFER Why is this important?

The majority of electric guitars use passive pickups with a high impedance output. When you are using a cable there is a loss of tone, usually high frequencies, after about 6 m (around 18 feet) and this problem gets worse the longer your cable. A buffer boosts the signal over long cables to avoid loss of tone, keeping it clean and clear – even when your pedal is off.

The ULTRA BUFFER enhances the sound quality in bypass mode, so that you can still maintain audio quality even when using a long cable to connect to the tuner, or when inserting the tuner into a complex effects board.
On the Pitchblack X, you can switch between true bypass and the ULTRA BUFFER, according to your tastes and performance environment.

Korg

In the current JustPedals catalogue, Korg is represented by Tuner Pedals, Expression Pedals and DIY Pedal Kits. Current listings include PS-1 Footswitch, EXP2 Expression and KR-11 Compact Rhythm Box. That makes the range relevant to players looking for drive, gain and clipping, plus modelling, direct rigs and multi-effects. Check each model for its exact circuit or processing platform, controls, power requirements and connections, particularly where the catalogue includes both pedals and supporting gear.

Tuner Pedals

A tuner pedal measures the input frequency and shows whether the played note is sharp, flat or in tune. Detection speed, display resolution and note range affect accuracy, especially for low tunings and extended-range instruments. Buffered or true-bypass switching changes the signal path, while mute, strobe display, reference-pitch calibration and alternate-tuning modes shape operation.

True Bypass

True bypass removes the effect circuit from the audio path when bypassed, usually by mechanical, relay or switching circuitry. This can preserve the direct signal but does not automatically solve long-cable loading, and it may create a pop or leave no buffer for the rest of the board. Check the actual switching method, trails or spillover, input and output loading and the number of other true-bypass pedals in the chain.
