Hi! You’ve just dramatically expanded the capabilities of your Soft Focus DLX! You can use the SFX Tap to control your Soft Focus DLX and/or another pedal that might require a tap tempo.

To connect to the Soft Focus DLX: Using a TRS (two stripes) cable, connect the SFX Tap to the Soft Focus DLX using the jack labeled “DLX” on the Tap, to the EXP/TAP jack on the Soft Focus DLX. Plugging in the SFX Tap will take over the “Time” knob and simulate an expression pedal that is tuned to the BPM of your tapping. Program 6 hijacks the expression jack for a volume swell effect and tap tempo will not behave as expected, therefore tap tempo is not recommended when using this program.

To connect to another pedal’s tap input: Connect the jack marked “TAP” to your other pedal’s tap tempo jack using a standard TS (one stripe) cable. The SFX Tap uses a normally-open switch for maximum compatibility so please make sure your device uses this type of configuration.

To use both: Follow the above instructions and use the SFX Tap as a master clock for both effects!

The SFX Tap runs on the operating voltage of the Soft Focus DLX and requires no external power.

Specialist Effects Pedals

Specialist effects alter the signal in ways that do not sit cleanly inside one established family. They may use granular processing, frequency shifting, resonators, freeze or sustain, bit reduction, ring modulation, feedback networks or combinations of several techniques. The relevant distinction is the underlying process, its tracking or latency, and how completely the dry signal can be blended or replaced.

Expression Input

Accepts a variable control signal from an external expression pedal. It assigns foot movement to a parameter such as delay time, pitch, mix or modulation depth; connector wiring, polarity, resistance range and assignability must match the controlling pedal.

Tap Tempo

Measures repeated foot taps and converts their interval into an effect rate or delay time. Subdivisions translate that pulse into dotted, triplet or other rhythmic values, while averaging and range limits influence how quickly and accurately the tempo settles.
