Jangly modulation, weird in-and-out phasing, dizzying rotary sounds – all these legendary effects have been crammed into the Unicorn V2, JHS Pedals’ very own Uni-Vibe. Give the likes of Hendrix’s Star Spangled Banner or Pink Floyd’s Breathe a listen to get an idea of the unusual sounds this mythical creature can make.

The Unicorn is here to add movement and intrigue to your guitar sound. Working equally well stacked on clean or distorted tones, the Unicorn produces washy pulses of goodness ready to take your creativity to the next level.

What’s new in V2?

The pedal is now half the size it once was with a smaller price tag, with all the same fun sounds!

Sounds

Based on the original analogue photocell topology, the Unicorn requires a good amount of care and attention when dialling in your effect. This is the real deal after all. The middle Dry/Wet switch flicks between the base Uni-Vibe sound and a softer vibrato.

Each volume, speed and depth dial is extremely sensitive – and that’s where the magic lies. As you turn the depth clockwise, you get a wetter engulfing blend. Ratio lets you select half note, quarter note, dotted eighth and triplet rhythms for full time customisation.

Twist the speed and the pulses stretch from smooth waves to frantic crashes. Alternatively you can use the handy tap tempo footswitch.

Category

Modulation Pedals

Modulation changes a signal through a continuously moving control source. This broad category covers effects that alter delay time, phase, pitch, amplitude or filtering to create rotation, movement and evolving texture when no narrower effect family is dominant. Waveform, rate, depth, stereo phase and control routing determine the shape and spatial behaviour of that movement.

Analogue

The signal is shaped by continuously varying electronic circuitry rather than being converted into a digital effect algorithm. Component choice, operating voltage and circuit tolerances influence headroom, noise, clipping texture and the small variations in response between designs.

Tap Tempo

Measures repeated foot taps and converts their interval into an effect rate or delay time. Subdivisions translate that pulse into dotted, triplet or other rhythmic values, while averaging and range limits influence how quickly and accurately the tempo settles.
