The Seymour Duncan SH-6B Duncan Distortion is one of the most popular pickups to come out of their factory in some time. It has joined the ranks of the ’59, JB and Jazz models as one of the go to pickups for guitarists who need a solid and stable upgrade.

Made For Gain

Unlike the other pickups that I mentioned before the Duncan Distortion is a bit of a high gain metal machine. With a ceramic magnet and an extremely high output this pickup is made to be thrown through a high gain amplifier as loud as it can run.

Coil Tap

Because this pickup uses a 4 conductor lead wire you can still dial it back nice and easily by tapping the coils. This means you can achieve classic single coil like response in a guitar that has just two humbuckers. You never know when this extra sound can come in handy even when using a lot of gain.

Trembucker Spaced

This pickup is the trembucker spaced version meaning it is designed to work on guitars that use classic ‘F’ style bridges, hipshot hardware or Floyd Rose style tremolos.

Here’s what Seymour Duncan say about the SH-6B Duncan Distortion Trembucker pickup.

The Duncan Distortion is our original high output humbucker. It incorporates a massive ceramic magnet and hot coil windings to deliver well-balanced rock and metal tones that have rich upper midrange harmonic content. Great for hard hitting, crunchy rhythms, and searing lead tone. Riffs are tight and percussive and lead work is fast and immediate with ultra-clear pick dynamics. Pair with the Jazz neck model for a versatile humbucker setup, or use the Duncan Distortion neck model for the a killer high output setup.Hand built in our Santa Barbara, CA factory, the Duncan Distortion uses a large ceramic bar magnet, nickel silver bottom plate, 4-conductor lead wire for multiple wiring options, and is vacuum wax potted for squeal-free performance.

Distortion Pedals

Distortion pedals create a heavier, more aggressive gain sound than most overdrive pedals, giving guitarists the sustain, bite and saturation needed for rock, punk, metal and hard-hitting lead tones. They can turn a clean amp into a high-gain platform or add an extra layer of intensity to an already driven sound.

Some distortion pedals are tight and modern, while others are raw, fizzy or vintage-inspired. Choosing the right one depends on whether you want chunky rhythm tones, singing sustain, scooped metal sounds or a classic hard-rock voice with plenty of attack.

Distortion

Distortion pedals and related effects are commonly used by guitarists looking to shape their tone in a more focused and creative way. Different designs offer their own response, feel and tonal character depending on the style of music and the type of amplifier or guitar being used.

Many players build pedalboards gradually over time, combining different effects and utilities to create a setup that suits their own sound and workflow. Distortion related gear can play an important role in both live performance and studio recording.
