Texas-based pedal manufacturer Ryra pay homage to the classic Tubescreamer with a gutsy overdrive of their own, in what they believe is the best iteration yet – the 808. As with the O.G green stompbox, the 808 delivers a punchy mid-range drive capable of both bluesy snarl and tight metal attack in your preferred setting.

The 808 Overdrive

We all know what this one's going to sound like. The Tubescreamer has more than its fair share of copies, but who better to have a stab at it than renowned boutique pedal creators Ryra?

We can indeed confirm that the 808 sounds absolutely stunning. As you might expect from a TS-style overdrive, it's simultaneously loud, resonant and healthy in the midrange with plenty of spank; yet it remains beautifully transparent in its saturation. Plug it in with a set of hot single coil pickups and you'll know exactly what we mean.

This transparent, boosted sound will suit most styles and applications. Tighten your existing overdrive or distortion sound, or use it for some standalone fizz. Many will say that despite its versatility, it sounds best with a single coil Strat going into a slightly pushed valve amp, blues-style. Who are we to argue?
