Description

here at Just Pedals we love this Radial Engineering Tonebone Switchbone amp switcher with boost.

The Radial Tonebone Switchbone is an exceptional AB-Y switcher, allowing you to drive 2 guitar amplifiers at the same time without introducing noise, hum, or coloration and to switch between amplifiers without problems. Employing the class-A circuitry from the acclaimed Radial JD7 Injector it provides exceptional audio performance. The compact pedal has been optimized for maximum, yet simple, performance.

The Switchbone incorporates a simple yet extremely effective power booster with variable gain control and gain boost, mid and gain boost, and mute. The mute turns off the amp outputs while still sending signal to the tuner out.

The innovative Drag Control feature allows the user to re-introduce a load on the pickup, which fools the pickup into thinking it is connected to an amplifier.

Here’s what Radial say about the Radial Tonebone Switchbone:

The ultimate AB-Y guitar amp switcher! Switchbone is a creative tool that is designed to allow your guitar to drive and control two amplifiers without introducing noise, distortion, clicks or pops. Most importantly, the Switchbone will retain the natural sound and feel of your instrument.

The Switchbone employs the same Class-A circuit as the critically acclaimed Radial JD7 Injector for exceptional audio performance. Our unique Drag control provides single-knob load correction to re-introduce the natural relationship between the amp and guitar pickup that is invariably lost when the guitar is buffered or split to drive two amps. To eliminate hum and buzz caused by ground loops, the Switchbone’s second output is transformer equipped for 100% isolation. A 180º polarity reverse switch keeps both amps in phase.

Radial’s acclaimed VariBoost™ power booster gives you complete foot-switchable control over boost gain and mid boost for soloing. The innovative ‘ToggleMode’ footswitch with large flashing LED’s simplifies switching and eliminates tap dancing. The tuner output is always on for quick tune-ups and buffered to keep your signal path clean.

Amp

An amp pedal, often referred to as an amp simulator pedal or amp modeling pedal, is a type of effects pedal designed to emulate the sound and characteristics of various guitar amplifiers. By using digital or analog processing, these pedals replicate the tonal qualities, gain stages, and tonal response of different types of amplifiers, such as vintage tube amps, high-gain modern amps, or classic solid-state models.

Amp pedals are typically used to shape a guitarist’s tone without needing to rely on multiple physical amplifiers. They offer a range of preset or adjustable sounds that mimic the effects of different amp types, including their distinctive overdrive, distortion, and EQ settings. Some amp pedals also include additional features like cabinet simulations, which mimic the sound of different speaker cabinets, and built-in effects like reverb and delay. This makes them a versatile tool for achieving a variety of tones and sounds, whether in a practice setting, recording studio, or live performance, providing convenience and flexibility in a compact form.

Boost

A “boost” pedal, also known as a “clean boost,” is a type of guitar effects pedal designed to increase the volume of the guitar signal without adding significant distortion or coloration to the tone. Boost pedals are used to amplify the signal level, allowing guitarists to achieve higher volume levels or to push their amplifier into overdrive for increased saturation and sustain.

Boost pedals typically feature a simple interface with controls for adjusting the level of boost, often represented by a single knob or a toggle switch. When engaged, the boost pedal increases the gain of the signal passing through it, effectively amplifying the sound. Unlike overdrive or distortion pedals, which introduce clipping and saturation to the signal, boost pedals aim to provide a clean and transparent volume increase.

Boost pedals are versatile tools that can serve various purposes in a guitarist’s rig:

1. **Volume Boost**: Boost pedals can be used to increase the volume of the guitar signal, allowing players to stand out during solos or to compensate for differences in volume between guitars or pickup settings.

2. **Overdrive Stacking**: Boost pedals are commonly used to push the front end of an overdrive or distortion pedal, resulting in increased saturation and sustain. By placing the boost pedal before a drive pedal in the signal chain, guitarists can achieve higher levels of gain and distortion without sacrificing clarity or dynamics.

3. **Amp Pushing**: Boost pedals can also be used to drive the input stage of a tube amplifier harder, causing the amp to naturally overdrive and produce a more saturated and harmonically rich tone. This is particularly useful for guitarists seeking to achieve classic tube amp breakup at lower volume levels.

4. **Tone Shaping**: Some boost pedals feature EQ controls or tone shaping options, allowing guitarists to tailor the frequency response of their signal. These pedals can be used to boost specific frequencies or to shape the overall tonal characteristics of the guitar sound.

Overall, boost pedals are essential tools for guitarists looking to enhance their tone, increase volume levels, or drive their amplifier into overdrive for added saturation and sustain. Whether used as a standalone effect or in combination with other pedals, boost pedals offer versatility and flexibility in shaping the guitar sound.
