Here's what Darkglass have to say about the Vintage Deluxe V3:
The Vintage series of pedals from Darkglass are perfect for those players who want that classic, warm and tube-like overdriven bass tone that is so familiar in many styles of music from the past five decades.
The Vintage Deluxe takes the same great and highly sought-after tone circuit from the Vintage Microtubes pedal, then adds a 4-band active EQ, parallel output and a balanced line driver (DI), while the additional Grunt and Attack switches sit right before the clipping stage and boosts the low and high end respectively, right before your signal heads into the drive section. This adds additional levels of saturation and/or emphasis for even more tonal variation.
For the latest Vintage Deluxe V3 version, we wanted to simply add a couple of very useful extra features for tone shaping:
- Low mid frequency switch: the "Lo Mid" control now has a dedicated switch to shift its corner frequency one octave. So in addition to the standard 1kHz, users now get 12dB of cut/boost at 500Hz.
- High mid frequency switch: the "Hi Mid" control now has a dedicated switch to shift its corner frequency one octave. So in addition to the standard 3kHz, users now get 12dB of cut/boost at 1.5kHz.
With these new V3 features added to the Deluxe model, you really have as much control as you will ever need to get amazing bass tones and the pedal really does deliver the natural dynamic response and organic compression of classic tube amps and tape machines, fitting five decades of legendary tones into a package that will fit right into your gig bag.

- Vintage Microtubes classic overdrive circuit

Darkglass Electronics – Sculpting Tone for the Modern Bassist
Darkglass Electronics is a cutting-edge brand renowned for its powerful, high-gain bass pedals and amplifiers. Their products, like the B7K Ultra and Alpha-Omega, are designed to shape and redefine bass tone with precision, offering deep lows, aggressive midrange, and smooth top-end.
Known for their innovative designs and premium components, Darkglass pedals deliver a wide range of tonal options, from subtle overdrive to extreme distortion, while maintaining clarity and definition even at high volumes. Ideal for bassists seeking to push the boundaries of their sound, Darkglass combines modern innovation with legendary tone-shaping capabilities.
Bass
In the realm of guitar effects, “bass” pedals are designed specifically for bass guitars, enhancing their low-end frequencies and allowing bassists to shape their tone and explore new sonic possibilities. These pedals cater to the unique characteristics of the bass guitar and provide various effects to modify its sound. For instance, overdrive and distortion pedals add gain and saturation, giving the bass a gritty or distorted tone. Compression pedals help even out dynamics by smoothing out the volume of loud and soft notes, resulting in a consistent and punchy sound. EQ pedals enable bassists to sculpt their tone by boosting or cutting specific frequencies, allowing them to emphasize certain parts of the sound or compensate for room acoustics.
Other popular bass effects include envelope filters, which produce dynamic filter sweeps in response to playing dynamics, adding rhythmic groove to bass lines. Octave pedals generate harmonies one or two octaves below the original note, creating a fuller and more powerful sound. Modulation effects like chorus, flanger, and phaser add depth and movement by modulating the pitch or phase, creating swirling textures and enhancing the overall presence of the bass line. Lastly, delay and reverb pedals introduce ambience and spatial depth, adding echoes and reflections that enhance the sense of space in music. These diverse effects allow bassists to expand their sonic palette and express their creativity in numerous ways.
Deluxe
“Deluxe” refers to a premium or enhanced version of a pedal, offering additional features or higher-quality components compared to the standard model. These deluxe versions often include more controls for greater tonal flexibility, extra effects or modes, or improved sound quality. For example, a deluxe reverb pedal might have more reverb settings or additional features like true bypass, providing more options to shape the sound. Essentially, a “Deluxe” version is designed for those looking for extra versatility and refined performance in their gear.

Preamp Pedal
A preamp pedal is a versatile tool used to shape and enhance your instrument’s tone before it reaches the amplifier. Essentially, it acts as a “front end” for your signal chain, adding warmth, clarity, and character to your sound. Preamps can emulate the tone of different amplifier types or add additional tonal shaping with controls like gain, treble, mid, bass, and volume.
Preamp pedals are popular for their ability to drive an amplifier harder, creating natural overdrive and distortion, or they can be used to clean up your tone and add some subtle warmth. They’re also useful for achieving a consistent sound across different setups, especially when recording, as they allow you to dial in a tone that can be sent directly to a recording interface or PA system. Well-known preamp pedals include the JHS Morning Glory, Electro-Harmonix Tube Zipper, and MXR M81 Bass Preamp.
Vintage
In the world of guitar pedals, vintage refers to effects that either come from an earlier era or replicate the sound and characteristics of classic gear. Vintage pedals are often prized for their warm, organic tones, analogue circuitry, and unique imperfections that add character to a guitar’s sound. Many modern pedals are designed to emulate sought-after vintage effects, such as the rich fuzz of a 1960s Fuzz Face, the smooth overdrive of an original Tube Screamer, or the lush modulation of a 1970s Electro-Harmonix Electric Mistress. Whether using authentic vintage units or modern recreations, vintage-style effects remain a staple in rock, blues, and classic psychedelic music.
