HI POWER is Crazy Tube Circuits' next endeavor in pedal & amp-in-a-box overdrives. This pedal recreates legendary sounds, following the success of the Crossfire and Unobtanium. It was inspired by the sonic combination of two British tone machines. The almighty Colorsound Power Boost pedal meets the blistering high-headroom Hiwatt amplifier!

On the left side of the HI POWER pedal, you will find an all-analogue circuit set out to emulate the sound and feel of a Hiwatt amp. Following the path of the famed British tube amplifier, the circuit offers authentic amp tones and feel resembling guitar tones from guitar greats like David Gilmour, Pete Townsend, Jimmy Page, and Noel Gallagher to name a few.

The right-hand side of the pedal is a faithful reproduction of the Colorsound Power Boost and Overdrive Circuits.

While the combination of these two units directly hints at the gear setup of David Gilmour and especially the gear used on Pink Floyd’s album: Wish You Were Here (think the guitar solo sounds of “Shine on You Crazy Diamond”, “Have A Cigar”) the sonic options are endless.

Key Features

  • Passive Effects Loop – The pedal includes a passive effects loop to give you the option to connect your beloved pedals between your booster/overdrive and amp in a box or use the two sections as separate and independent effects when using an external bypass switcher/looper.
  • Controllable EQ – Dial in the full EQ section along with a presence control located at the negative feedback of the power amp simulation circuit to control the level of EQ needed.
  • Headroom Toggle Switch – A headroom toggle switch selects between the high headroom 100w power section provided by a quartet of EL34s (think Hiwatt DR103), or the lower headroom and compression provided by a 50W power section with a pair of EL34s when hit hard (think DR504).

Overdrive Pedals

Overdrive pedals add warmth, grit and amplifier-like breakup to your guitar tone. They can be used as a light always-on tone enhancer, a bluesy crunch box, a mid-focused solo boost or a way to push a valve amp into richer saturation.

Different overdrive circuits have very different personalities, from transparent low-gain pedals to classic mid-hump designs and heavier modern drives. They are one of the most important pedal types because they respond to picking dynamics, guitar volume and the character of your amplifier.

Overdrive pedals recreate the sound of an amplifier being pushed harder, adding warmth, breakup and sustain while still responding naturally to picking dynamics and guitar volume changes. They are one of the most important and widely used pedal types in modern guitar rigs.

Different overdrive circuits offer very different flavours, from transparent low-gain boost-style pedals through to mid-focused classic rock tones and heavier amp-like saturation.
