Five Watt World and Barber Electronics have teamed up again to deliver a pedal with tremendous versatility. One pedal that can be your best clean boost, and your favourite treble booster, that sublime tone conditioner and, yeah, that stand-alone overdrive at number 1 on your “top 3 ever” list.

Key Features

  • Harmonically Shape Your Tone – The tone control never mutes your highs as you turn it down, it simple lowers the gain of the pedal while uncovering deeper and deeper bass, conversely, as you turn the tone control up your signal gets tighter, the gain increases and the magnificent top end is revealed.
  • Simple Layout – The Plus has two 3-way toggles which elevate your workflow to the point where you can reliably sculp your tone without the slightest worry of submenu drama.
  • Expertly Handmade – This pedal has real honest solder lugs for jacks, a true-bypass footswitch, toggles and pots. Nothing but the best tried and true hand-built methods adorn the interior of the pedal to always ensure maximum quality.

Reactive Controls

The Plus has two 3-way toggles which elevate your workflow. Here we have set up an output filter control, and a bass enhancement system to complement the tone control. Each of these switches operates as “out of the circuit” (OOC), engaged, and then strongest.

The bass enhancement toggle gives you full control of the low end, you can easily balance the Plus EQ to cover treble boost, classic boost, vintage overdrive, and larger than life modern boutique with amp-like textures. The output filter toggle puts you in charge of the silhouette of the top end, anything from rude and surly, to smooth and refined, and again, this power and versatility comes with effortless workflow. We built a better system so you can realize the best from the guitars and amps you already own.

The Story of the Five Watt World Plus Boost Overdrive

Barber Electronics started with one part vintage overdrive, and the classic op-amp overdrive that started it all, the venerable OD1. The DNA of the OD1 exists in nearly all op-amp overdrive pedals since 1977, often being at the heart of $700+ boutique pedals with year long wait lists. But Barber Electronics did not want to make a clone, that would miss the point, and the OD1 was truly a one trick pony, although it was a great trick.

David Barber had ghost-built one of the greatest OD1 based overdrive pedals for a well known boutique brand, the one players in the know referred to as “Klon Killer”, and with Keith from Five Watt World phoning up David Barber to talk about dream pedal ideas, this collaboration was born!

The Plus builds on the relationship between Barber Electronics and Five Watt World. Barber Electronics needed to fully realize the potential of a magic little circuit that was born in 1977. They wanted 4 primary functions this time, and each had to be truly top notch.

Handmade, Hand-Soldered

The Five Watt World Plus Boost has real honest solder lugs for jacks, a true-bypass footswitch, toggles and pots. Nothing but the best tried and true hand-built methods adorn the interior. The Five Watt World Plus Boost pedal has a generous 2 1/2” of clearance between the front edge of the footswitch and the back edge of the knobs, no fear about accidentally changing your settings with each click of your footswitch.

Guitar Pedals

Guitar Pedals is a useful category for players looking to shape their guitar or bass sound in a more focused way. Products in this area can help with tone, control, routing, performance or creative sound design depending on the exact type of gear involved.

For anyone building a pedalboard, guitar pedals options can help fill a specific gap in the signal chain or open up new sounds that are difficult to achieve with an amp alone. They are worth exploring when you want a more personal, flexible and practical setup.

Overdrive Pedals

Overdrive uses soft or moderate clipping to add harmonics and compression while retaining more of the original note shape than heavy distortion. Some circuits emphasise the midrange and trim bass before clipping; others remain broad, transparent or amplifier-like. Gain, clipping arrangement, headroom and tone filtering decide whether it supplies a light edge, a saturated drive sound or extra push into another gain stage.

Tags

Boost

Raises signal level and may also reshape the frequency balance before the next stage. A clean boost preserves the waveform until headroom is exceeded, while coloured designs emphasise particular frequencies or add mild clipping that changes how later gain stages respond.

Guitar Pedal

Guitar Pedal pedals and related effects are commonly used by guitarists looking to shape their tone in a more focused and creative way. Different designs offer their own response, feel and tonal character depending on the style of music and the type of amplifier or guitar being used.

Many players build pedalboards gradually over time, combining different effects and utilities to create a setup that suits their own sound and workflow. Guitar Pedal related gear can play an important role in both live performance and studio recording.

Overdrive

Uses moderate clipping and gain-dependent compression to add harmonics while retaining much of the original note contour. Bass filtering, mid emphasis, clipping symmetry and available headroom decide whether it sounds open and amplifier-like, tightly focused or heavily saturated.
