Description
The EarthQuaker Devices Towers Stereo Soundscape Generator is a pedal so atmospheric and otherworldly that you might want to strap yourself in before turning it on! At its core, Towers is a beautifully bizarre architectural experiment in sound, with your input signal diving headfirst into a maze of endlessly repeating micro‑echoes that feed into a colossal, cathedral-sized reverb engine.
And we’re not talking polite ambience here — this is the big “cosmic void but make it musical” stuff. From there, everything gets wrapped up inside a resonant low‑pass filter that slices through the delay and reverb paths, shaping an enormous, completely addictive sound.
Filter tricks for tone adventurers
The resonant low‑pass filter is warm, ringy, and just a touch mysterious — perfect for adding dark, moody texture to the already lush stereo wash. Towers lets you interact with it in three different modes:
Manual mode: Twist the Frequency control and watch the left and right channels glide in opposite directions.
Envelope mode: Your playing dynamics steer the filter. Dig in and it blooms; play gently and it floats. Meanwhile the Frequency knob sets the sensitivity sweet spot.
LFO mode: Let the pedal take the wheel with a slow, syrupy sweep that drifts across the stereo field. The Frequency control sets how fast it drifts.
Stretch into oblivion
Then there’s Stretch — where things go full sci‑fi. Hit that switch and Towers slows its entire processing brain down, doubling your reverb length and smearing everything into a deliciously lo‑fi, warbly dream. Delays pull apart, filters sag and the whole sound melts into something beautifully broken. Tap it for a quick dip into weirdness, or hold it and listen as the whole machine descends gloriously into the abyss, leaving shimmering artifacts floating in its wake.
Save the magic
And when you’ve finally crafted a sound so gorgeous you simply must keep it forever, you’ve got eight user presets ready to store your finest sonic discoveries. Happy exploring!Key Features
A unique type of reverb: Resonant impulses interact with every reflection to create colourful, ever‑moving texture throughout the reverb tails. Perfect for adding a massive, unearthly sound that transcends the limitations of traditional hardware — whether you’re using guitar, synth or keys.
Three-position filter frequency control: Switch between Manual, Envelope and LFO modes to shape and animate your atmosphere exactly how you want it.
User assignable expression control: Take hands‑free command of the Length, Filter or Mix controls using any TRS expression pedal. A particularly fun trick is controlling the Filter via expression in Manual mode while running Towers in stereo for huge, shifting soundscapes.
Stretch feature: Slows down the entire digital system, doubling your reverb length while altering the frequency spectrum. This introduces a dreamy pitch‑bending effect and melts your sound into a beautifully lo‑fi, warped texture.
True bypass switching: Preserves your tone when the effect is disengaged, ensuring your dry signal stays clear, clean and completely unaffected when Towers is turned off.
Made in the USA: Towers is hand‑built by the skilled tone technicians at EarthQuaker Devices on the banks of the historic Ohio and Erie Canal, in the heart of Akron, Ohio.
