The Hoof V2 By EarthQuaker Devices is a germanium/silicon hybrid fuzz that is based on the classic sound of Muff Fuzz boxes from the 70’s. With some really interesting controls and a mixture of different transistors inside this pedal is part Muff Fuzz part overdriven amplifier.

The Second Interation

The Hoof V2 has been updated from the original Hoof to include soft-touch switching for silent and effortless on-stage operation. With a more durable switch than before, the V2 model will take some serious abuse on stage.

A Mixture of Tones

By using a mixture of germanium and silicon transistors throughout the circuit you get a sound that is almost certainly based on a fuzz but with a few tweaks. The high end is a lot more harmonic like you would find out of an overdriven valve amp which also results in a lot more dynamic feel so it cleans up more with your picking and guitars volume control.

In Depth Controls

One of the reasons this pedal is so popular is the tone system which merges together your normal Tone control with a Shift knob that adjusts the frequency range of the Tone control. This gives you so much more control over your sound and the results coming out of your amplifier, no matter your rig this will fit in wonderfully.

Here’s What EarthQuaker Devices say about the Hoof V2

Free Range Fuzz Tones
The Hoof V2 is Earthquaker Devices’ flagship fuzz, and when you hear it you’ll instantly know
why. Loosely based on a classic green Russian muff-style circuit, and featuring a unique hybrid
Germanium/Silicon design, the Hoff V2 is set to spit out rich, smooth fuzz tones full of natural
harmonic overtones and enough sustain to make Santana stop in his tracks and take note.

• Hybrid germanium/ silicon fuzz – for rich and smooth fuzz tones
• Hand tested NOS germanium transiostors
• Shift knob selects center frequency of the Tone control
• True bypass – Silent soft-touch switching
• Analog dry-through
• Top-mounted jacks – for effortless pedalboard implementation

The Hoof has a wide gain range, providing everything from dirty and organic amp-like overdrive, to monstrous fuzz madness. This, paired with the “Shift” control allows you total tonal access, as
the “Shift” knob works with the “Tone” control to alter the overall frequency response of the Hoof.

Use the “Shift” to boost the highs for a glassy, cutting top-end; use it to cut out some low-mid mud; use it to add some thick stoner rock sludge; use it on bass; use it to combat the muffstyle
fuzz’s notorious “mid scoop;”. The Hoof’s distinctive, fuzzy character is tight and controlled without sacrificing any “guts,” so to speak, so even the gnarliest fuzz tones will sit well in the mix.

Every NOS Germanium transistor in the Hoof V2 is hand-matched to exacting specifications for pedal-to-pedal concistency, guaranteeing that every single Hoof V2 will rock equally hard!

The Hoof V2 has a fully analog signal path and new electronic relay based true-bypass switching. It is powered by a standard 9-volt DC power supply with a 2.1mm negative center barrel and has a current draw of 10ma. Each Hoof V2 is built one-at-a-time by real life human beans with four fingers and a thumb waiting in line for the horsey rides at the rustic frontierland amusement park of Akron, Ohio, USA.

Fuzz Pedals

Fuzz pedals produce a thick, saturated and often unruly form of distortion with a character all of its own. From smooth vintage sustain to gated, spluttering and synth-like textures, fuzz is one of the most expressive and distinctive effects in guitar history.

Players use fuzz for psychedelic rock, garage, stoner rock, doom, indie, shoegaze and experimental sounds. It can feel more like an instrument than a normal drive pedal, responding strongly to guitar volume, pickup choice and playing dynamics.

Guitar Pedals

Guitar Pedals is a useful category for players looking to shape their guitar or bass sound in a more focused way. Products in this area can help with tone, control, routing, performance or creative sound design depending on the exact type of gear involved.

For anyone building a pedalboard, guitar pedals options can help fill a specific gap in the signal chain or open up new sounds that are difficult to achieve with an amp alone. They are worth exploring when you want a more personal, flexible and practical setup.

Fuzz

Fuzz pedals create thick saturated distortion with a raw and highly expressive character that differs significantly from standard overdrive or distortion pedals. Vintage-inspired fuzz circuits remain hugely influential in psychedelic rock, doom, garage, shoegaze and experimental music.

Different fuzz designs respond very differently to pickups, guitar volume and playing dynamics, allowing players to move between smooth sustain, gated textures and aggressive spluttering tones.

Guitar Pedal

Guitar Pedal pedals and related effects are commonly used by guitarists looking to shape their tone in a more focused and creative way. Different designs offer their own response, feel and tonal character depending on the style of music and the type of amplifier or guitar being used.

Many players build pedalboards gradually over time, combining different effects and utilities to create a setup that suits their own sound and workflow. Guitar Pedal related gear can play an important role in both live performance and studio recording.
