The Catalinbread Cold One is a next-level fuzz, distortion and glitch machine inspired by the cult-classic DOD Punkifier. With three mixable gain flavours, a dedicated Glitch control and an active tone circuit, it delivers everything from tight overdrive and classic Brit-pop fuzz to wild, arpeggiated chaos. Whether you are chasing Graham Coxon inspired textures or exploring entirely new noise territories, the Cold One serves up complete tonal refreshment every time you step on it. At its heart, the Cold One lets you blend and morph between multiple dirt circuits, rather than locking you into a single flavour. Slam controls the distortion gain, Punk sets the fuzz and distortion blend, Spikes shapes your overall EQ and Menace sets the output level. On top of that, the Glitch knob introduces a glitchy, arpeggiating fuzz voice that can be dialled in subtly for movement or cranked for full-on broken-circuit mayhem. It is a compact, creative hub for players who want their drive sounds to be as expressive and unpredictable as their playing. Crucially, the Cold One is designed to be genuinely usable across guitar and bass setups. With Slam set low, the distortion side effectively becomes a clean channel, letting you use the Punk control like a clean blend for retaining low-end punch and note definition. Input and output buffers keep your signal strong anywhere in the chain, and the circuit happily takes up to 18V for extra headroom and clarity. From late-night riff sessions to the live stage, it is built to inspire new ideas every time you crack it open. Whether you want a faithful nod to the original Punkifier tones heard on tracks like Blur’s Coffee & TV, or a modern, more controllable and expansive version of that concept, the Cold One delivers. Its layered gain structure, musical tone control and glitch blending make it a powerful creative tool for alt-rock, shoegaze, experimental noise and beyond. Layered Dirt Tones The Cold One gives you three distinct gain flavours that can be used individually or stacked together. From tight distortion through to saturated fuzz and glitchy, arpeggiated textures, it lets you build complex, multi-layered sounds with just a few knob turns. This flexibility makes it ideal as a main dirt pedal that can cover multiple roles on your board. Glitch Control The dedicated Glitch knob blends between the standard fuzz circuit and a unique, arpeggiating glitch fuzz voice. You can add just a hint of movement for subtle, animated sustain, or push it into full-on stuttering chaos for experimental riffs and soundscapes. Having this on a single control makes it easy to move from conventional to extreme tones mid-set. Active Tone Shaping The Spikes control is an active tone circuit that enhances frequencies rather than simply rolling them off. This means you can add bite, presence and clarity without losing body or low-end. It helps your sound cut through a mix while still feeling full and musical, whether you are using mild overdrive or stacked fuzz and glitch. Versatile Signal Integration With input and output buffers, the Cold One is comfortable anywhere in your signal chain and plays nicely with other pedals. Running it at up to 18V provides extra headroom and punch, and setting the Slam control low effectively gives you a clean channel to blend your fuzz into. This makes it a powerful option for both guitarists and bassists who need flexible, mix-ready drive tones.Key Features Modern Take on the DOD Punkifier – Inspired by the original Punkifier as heard on classic Blur recordings, the Cold One refines that concept with updated control ranges and more musical behaviour, giving you those iconic textures with greater reliability and flexibility. Three Distinct Gain Flavours – Access distortion, fuzz and glitchy arpeggiated fuzz as separate voices or blend them together. This layered approach lets you move from subtle grit to dense, complex walls of sound without changing pedals. Glitch Blend Knob – T…

Catalinbread

Catalinbread began in 2003 when Nic Harris built a pedal on his kitchen table; the company has made its pedals in Portland, Oregon since 2006, building more than 30 designs by hand. Its catalogue often reworks characterful studio and amplifier circuits for a pedalboard. JustPedals listings include the Adineko oil-can delay, Echorec multi-tap echo, Epoch Bias preamp and Sinkhole reverb. These models show the brand’s interest in distinctive delay, preamp and ambience sounds, with each product built around a particular vintage reference or circuit idea.

Category

Overdrive Pedals

Overdrive uses soft or moderate clipping to add harmonics and compression while retaining more of the original note shape than heavy distortion. Some circuits emphasise the midrange and trim bass before clipping; others remain broad, transparent or amplifier-like. Gain, clipping arrangement, headroom and tone filtering decide whether it supplies a light edge, a saturated drive sound or extra push into another gain stage.

Tags

Bass

Voiced or equipped to retain low-frequency fundamentals and the higher headroom of a bass signal. Clean blends, crossovers and bass-specific filter ranges can preserve weight and articulation while the effected portion adds harmonics, movement or ambience.

Fuzz

Pushes the signal into extreme clipping, often approaching a square wave and producing dense harmonics. Transistor type, bias, input loading and filtering govern whether the texture is smooth, woolly, gated, spluttering, octave-rich or highly responsive to the instrument volume.

Vocal

Designed for microphone-level signals and the frequency, dynamics and feedback behaviour of the human voice. Input gain, balanced connections, phantom power and pitch tracking may be provided so effects respond correctly before the signal reaches a mixer or PA.
