Limited to just 100 units worldwide, the Great Eastern FX Co. Obsolete Devices 2N1175 Transformer Boost is a hand-built germanium boost, preamp and tone enhancer that adds up to 18 dB of level along with rich harmonic colour, warmth and dynamic response. Centred around a rare batch of NOS General Electric 2N1175 germanium transistors and a Triad Magnetics output transformer, it is designed to bring character and musical saturation to any rig. At its core, the Transformer Boost is all about touch sensitivity and feel. It can sit at the front of your signal chain as an always-on tone sweetener, adding depth and presence to clean and edge-of-breakup sounds, or it can be used as a powerful solo boost to push your amp or other pedals into more expressive overdrive. With excellent volume knob clean-up and a highly interactive Low Cut control, it rewards players who like to work their guitar controls and play the amp rather than simply stacking gain. The Triad Magnetics transformer is driven directly by the germanium transistor, allowing the pedal to deliver a uniquely organic saturation that reacts to your picking dynamics. Hit the strings hard and you get chewy, harmonically rich crunch; back off and it cleans up with a smooth, rounded top end. The Low Cut control lets you decide how much low-end energy hits the transformer, so you can tighten things up for articulate rhythm work or unleash thick, growling lows for huge, sustaining leads. Designed and built by hand in the UK, the Obsolete Devices 2N1175 Transformer Boost is a boutique tool for players who value nuance, musicality and individuality in their tone. Whether you play vintage-style blues, classic rock, indie, alt or anything in between, it offers a flexible way to enhance your core sound without masking the character of your guitar and amp. Germanium Character, Modern Control The heart of the pedal is a NOS General Electric 2N1175 germanium transistor, chosen for its musical compression, warmth and touch sensitivity. Unlike many vintage-style boosts, the Transformer Boost partners this classic component with carefully tuned controls so you can dial in exactly how much colour and saturation you want, from subtle thickening to bold, harmonically rich drive. Transformer-Driven Harmonics A Triad Magnetics output transformer is driven directly by the germanium transistor, creating a distinctive, transformer-based saturation. This adds pleasing overtones, smooths transients and helps your guitar sit perfectly in a mix, making chords sound fuller and single notes more vocal without resorting to heavy distortion. Flexible Low-End Shaping The dedicated Low Cut control lets you roll off bass frequencies before they hit the transformer, dramatically changing the feel and response. Turn it down for a tight, focused boost that keeps your low end controlled, or open it up to feed more bass into the circuit for maximum thickness, growl and low-end punch. Limited Edition, Hand-Built in the UK With only 100 units being produced, the Obsolete Devices 2N1175 Transformer Boost is a genuinely limited edition piece of gear. Each pedal is designed and built by hand in the UK, giving you a unique, boutique-quality boost that feels special every time you step on it and offers a level of individuality that mass-produced pedals cannot match. Key Features NOS General Electric 2N1175 Germanium Transistor – At the centre of the circuit is a carefully selected NOS 2N1175 germanium transistor, providing the classic warmth, compression and dynamic response that players love from vintage germanium devices, while retaining clarity and definition. Triad Magnetics Output Transformer – The output transformer is driven directly by the transistor, adding musical saturation, harmonic richness and subtle transient shaping. This helps your tone cut through the mix with more presence and character, even at lower gain settings. Low Cut Control for Bass and Saturation Shaping – The Low Cut knob allows you to fine-t…

Boost Pedals

Boost pedals raise signal level, add gain, or do both. A clean boost leaves most of the source voice alone and pushes the next stage harder; a coloured boost changes the frequency balance as it lifts the level, while a treble or mid boost can deliberately narrow the emphasis. Controls such as gain, output, tone, presence and headroom determine whether the pedal behaves as an always-on preamp or a solo lift. Placement matters: before an overdrive it increases clipping, after it mainly increases level, and into a clean amp it may simply make the rig louder.
