Amp and cab simulator pedals model, emulate or approximate the gain, frequency response and dynamic behaviour of an amplifier and speaker cabinet. Some focus on a preamp voice; others combine power-amp behaviour, cabinet filtering, microphone placement and direct outputs. They can feed a power amp, effects return, mixer, interface or headphones, but the correct routing depends on the model. Check impulse-response support, bypass options, input headroom and how the pedal responds to playing level.

Acoustic

Acoustic products are designed or voiced for acoustic instruments, including piezo, magnetic and microphone-based sources. Input impedance, body resonance, attack, EQ, compression, ambience and feedback control can all affect the result. Check whether the product is intended for acoustic guitar, another stringed instrument or general use, and confirm the connection, power and output format before placing it into a live PA or recording chain.

IR Loader

IR loaders play impulse responses that reproduce measured cabinet, microphone or other acoustic responses. They normally shape a direct signal after an amp or preamp, making it more suitable for an interface, mixer, PA or headphones. Check file format, sample rate, memory, loading method, output routing, level control and whether the loader can bypass its cabinet stage. An IR is not a replacement for every part of an amplifier chain, so gain staging still matters.

True Bypass

True bypass removes the effect circuit from the audio path when bypassed, usually by mechanical, relay or switching circuitry. This can preserve the direct signal but does not automatically solve long-cable loading, and it may create a pop or leave no buffer for the rest of the board. Check the actual switching method, trails or spillover, input and output loading and the number of other true-bypass pedals in the chain.

USB

Provides a Universal Serial Bus connection for power, audio, MIDI, firmware or editing data. The supported USB class and connector do not by themselves show its purpose; channel count, sample format, host compatibility and power demand define the actual function.
