“I’ve always loved the Carbon and the Gritador individually, but the idea of fusing them into one pedal so that the tones could be easily stacked? That was the dream. The Carbon gives you that refined Bluesbreaker tone – clear, dynamic, and incredibly responsive (think John Mayer) – while the Gritador brings that rich, vocal midrange and punch that just sings through a mix (think Stevie Ray Vaughan!). And when you stack them together, your guitar will just sing.” – Lee Anderton, 2025

Designed by Browne Amplification exclusively available in the UK from Music Co, the Ethane Dual Overdrive is the fusion of two of Browne’s most revered and coveted circuits, the Carbon and the Gritador. Generally accepted as the ultimate tone-chasers’ go-to overdrive combination, the Ethane is Brownes heavily tweaked and modified take on the Bluesbreaker/Tube Screamer amalgamation, offering an uncompromised vocal-like tone, powerful dynamics and an overall feel that keeps you coming back for more. The first edition of this pedal came in a Black Silver Vein finish; the current version features an ‘Aqua Copper Vein’ enclosure. Delish!

Key Features

  • Ultimate Fusion – The perfect marriage of Browne’s Carbon Bluesbreaker-voiced overdrive in combination with their TS-Style Gritador for the ultimate John Mayer/SRV blues-rock tones.
  • Top-Tier – As with all pedals from Browne Amplification, every component from the stunning powder-coated enclosure to the thought-out electrical parts is built for superior tone and a lifetime of reliability.

Carbon

Starting from the foundations laid by the coveted Bluesbreaker circuit, the Carbon pushes this circuit to new levels with improved volume, gain, dynamics and EQ range. This versatile transparent drive is the foundational overdrive to any rig, the pedal you’ll never want to be without. From sparkling edge of break-up to crisp and dynamic overdrive, the Carbon is the perfect natural sounding light to mild overdrive for any rig.

Gritador

Push any setup to the next level with the Gritador, Browne Amplifications’ take on the legendary TS-type circuit. Modified for a fuller low end, more rounded and less nasally mid-range hump as well as a more dialled in and more refined clipping stage. The Gritador is perhaps the most refined and polished take on the pedal that helped make rock scream!

Guitar Pedals

Guitar Pedals is a useful category for players looking to shape their guitar or bass sound in a more focused way. Products in this area can help with tone, control, routing, performance or creative sound design depending on the exact type of gear involved.

For anyone building a pedalboard, guitar pedals options can help fill a specific gap in the signal chain or open up new sounds that are difficult to achieve with an amp alone. They are worth exploring when you want a more personal, flexible and practical setup.

Overdrive Pedals

Overdrive pedals add warmth, grit and amplifier-like breakup to your guitar tone. They can be used as a light always-on tone enhancer, a bluesy crunch box, a mid-focused solo boost or a way to push a valve amp into richer saturation.

Different overdrive circuits have very different personalities, from transparent low-gain pedals to classic mid-hump designs and heavier modern drives. They are one of the most important pedal types because they respond to picking dynamics, guitar volume and the character of your amplifier.

Guitar Pedal

Guitar Pedal pedals and related effects are commonly used by guitarists looking to shape their tone in a more focused and creative way. Different designs offer their own response, feel and tonal character depending on the style of music and the type of amplifier or guitar being used.

Many players build pedalboards gradually over time, combining different effects and utilities to create a setup that suits their own sound and workflow. Guitar Pedal related gear can play an important role in both live performance and studio recording.

Overdrive

Overdrive pedals recreate the sound of an amplifier being pushed harder, adding warmth, breakup and sustain while still responding naturally to picking dynamics and guitar volume changes. They are one of the most important and widely used pedal types in modern guitar rigs.

Different overdrive circuits offer very different flavours, from transparent low-gain boost-style pedals through to mid-focused classic rock tones and heavier amp-like saturation.
