When Earthquaker Devices set about creating a new stompbox, they tend to do it with a clear goal in mind: to break the mould. Purveyors of some of the most mind-bending effects available on the market, they've got a reputation for setting the bar when it comes to weird and wonderful tones. Their latest creation is a typically supercharged modulation pedal with heaps of features and flexibility – say hello to the Pyramids!

Flange to your heart's content

The Pyramids Stereo Flanging Device started life as an offshoot of the Avalanche Run DSP architecture. It was tweaked and contorted until it became it's own beast entirely. The pedal you see before you is a stereo flanger with user-definable presets, eight distinct modulation modes, tap tempo and subdivision control, in-depth feedback controls and much more!

Pyramids “Activate” foot-switch features EarthQuaker Devices’ exclusive Flexi-Switch technology. This relay-based true-bypass switching platform allows for momentary or latching operation, making it easier than ever to engage the effect to bedazzle individual notes or phrases! For standard latching operation, tap the foot-switch to activate the effect and tap again to bypass. For momentary operation, simply hold down the foot-switch for as long as you’d like to use the effect. Release the foot-switch to bypass.

The Pyramids' eight flanger modes are:

  • Classic: delivers the “classic” (duh) jet-plane liquid-silk flanging sound we all know and love. In this mode, Pyramids recreates the studio-quality sounds of old-school ADT (automatic double tracking) as heard on timeless recordings by those fabulous mop-tops from England (you know which ones) and on the most ripping double-tracked riffs to come from the New Wave of British Heavy Metal.
  • Through-Zero: provides authentic tape-style flanging without all the calibration, biasing, demagnetising of heads, and so on that a real tape machine – two of ‘em, actually – requires. Use Through-Zero Mode to achieve intensified, swirling, dramatic phase cancellation and comb-filtering effects in stereo!
  • Barber Pole (Up or Down): infinitely sweeping upward or downward flanging effect with no discernible beginning, middle, or end creating an “endless circular staircase” effect derived from the Shephard Tone auditory illusion popularised in television, video games, and film.
  • Trigger (Up or Down): In this mode, Pyramids provides an infinitely upward or downward sweeping flanger that restarts the flange cycle with each new pick attack or by pressing the Tap/Trigger foot-switch.
  • Step: sweeps up and down in stepped increments, producing a rhythmic flange effect similar to an arpeggiator and/or sequencer on a synth instrument.
  • Random: sweeps up and down in random intervals, creating a chaotic flange effect similar to a synthesizer or envelope filter’s “sample & hold” function.

Connect the dots!

To accommodate any input source, Pyramids includes stereo input and outputs which allow for a variety of routing options onstage or in the studio. Routing possibilities include: Mono in / Mono out – Mono in / Stereo out – Stereo in / Stereo out. In addition, Pyramids’ Trigger Up/Down modes allow for Side Chain Flanging, in which an external control source (drum machine, sequencer, CV) may be used to trigger the flanger while you play another instrument! In this configuration, the primary instrument is routed through the Right Input and Right Output while the control source is patched into the Left Input.

envelope filter

An envelope filter reacts to your playing dynamics, opening and closing its sweep based on how hard you pick. Dig in and it quacks, ease off and it softens — delivering that unmistakable funk snap, auto-wah bounce, and touch-sensitive groove that feels alive under your fingers. It’s expressive, rhythmic, and full of character.

Use it to bring movement to clean riffs, add vocal-like sweeps to bass lines, or inject serious funk into your rhythm playing. From subtle shimmer to full-on 70s squelch, an envelope filter turns your picking hand into the control knob.

Filter

A filter pedal shapes your tone by emphasising or cutting specific frequencies, letting you sculpt everything from subtle tonal shifts to bold, sweeping textures. Unlike traditional wah or envelope effects, filters can be static or controlled in different ways, giving you focused control over how bright, dark, sharp, or resonant your sound becomes.

Use a filter to tighten the low end, tame harsh highs, or create synth-like sweeps and rhythmic movement. Whether you’re refining your core tone or pushing into experimental territory, a filter pedal gives you precise control over the flavour of your sound.

Flanger

A flanger is a type of guitar effects pedal used to create a swirling, whooshing sound by modulating the phase of an audio signal. It works by combining the original signal with a slightly delayed and modulated version of itself. As the two signals interact, they create peaks and troughs in the frequency spectrum, resulting in the characteristic “jet plane” or “swooshing” sound associated with flanging.

Key features of a flanger pedal include:

1. **Rate**: Controls the speed at which the delayed signal is modulated. Higher rates produce faster modulation, while lower rates create slower, more subtle effects.

2. **Depth**: Adjusts the intensity of the modulation effect. Higher depth settings result in more pronounced sweeps, while lower settings produce a gentler effect.

3. **Manual (or Range)**: Sets the center frequency of the modulation. This control allows you to focus the effect on specific frequency ranges, altering the tonal character of the flanging.

4. **Feedback (or Regeneration)**: Determines the amount of modulated signal that is fed back into the effect. Increasing feedback can create more pronounced peaks and troughs, resulting in a more intense effect.

Flanger pedals are commonly used in various music genres, including rock, metal, and psychedelic music, to add movement, depth, and texture to guitar tones. They can be used subtly to add a touch of modulation and dimension to a guitar sound, or more prominently to create dramatic swirling effects. Overall, flanger pedals offer guitarists a versatile tool for shaping and enhancing their tone, adding a dynamic and expressive element to their playing.

New

This is brand new, fresh in, and a UK warranty is included. New Gear always comes from trusted UK music retailers.

Synth

A synth pedal transforms your guitar signal into rich, layered tones that mimic the sounds of a synthesiser. Using pitch tracking and waveform generation, it can produce everything from deep bass lines to shimmering pads and futuristic leads. Synth pedals open up a wide creative range, blending the expressiveness of guitar playing with electronic textures, making them ideal for experimental sounds, ambient music, or adding a modern edge to classic riffs.

used

Used pedals bring character, value, and often a bit of history to your board. Whether it’s a well-loved classic or a recent release looking for its next home, a used pedal offers the same core tone at a more accessible price. Fully tested and described clearly, it’s a chance to grab great gear without paying brand-new money.

Go used to explore different sounds, track down discontinued favourites, or build your setup more affordably. Sometimes a pedal with a few marks on the casing still delivers flawless tone — and might even have a story or two behind it.
