The Boss DS-1 Distortion is a true icon of the stompbox world. Introduced in 1978, Boss' first distortion pedal defined a bold new sound, delivering hard-edged attack and smooth sustain that’s been a staple of players for generations. To this day, the DS-1 is Boss' best selling compact pedal ever, and is the latest in the range to get the legendary Waza Craft treatment! Introducing the DS-1W Waza Craft!

In true Waza Craft fashion, the DS-1W blends the look and character of the original with a newly revised discrete all-analogue circuit for expanded range and versatility. With two different modes on hand, you can seamlessly switch between the Standard DS-1 circuit and the new Custom mode, which boasts a fatter distortion with a more focussed mid-range.

True to the original, the DS-1W features controls for Tone, Level and Distortion, making it incredibly simple to dial in a great sounding mid to high-gain distortion. The Tone knob is powerful too! Turning the knob clockwise increases high frequencies whilst cutting lows, and turning it anti-clockwise has the opposite effect. Whether you're a fan of Hard Rock, Heavy Metal or Punk, the DS-1W is filled to the brim with genre-defining distortion sounds. All you need to do is strap in and enjoy the ride!

Boss

In the current JustPedals catalogue, Boss is represented by Multi-Effects Pedals, Delay Pedals and Distortion Pedals. Current listings include PW-3 Wah, PX-1 Plugout FX and FZ-5 Fuzz. That makes the range relevant to players looking for drive, gain and clipping, plus time-based effects and ambience. Check each model for its exact circuit or processing platform, controls, power requirements and connections, particularly where the catalogue includes both pedals and supporting gear.

Distortion Pedals

Distortion pedals use stronger or more deliberate clipping than a typical overdrive, adding harmonics, compression and sustain. Some are voiced for amp-like crunch, others for high-gain rhythm or a deliberately abrasive texture. Gain, tone, presence, resonance and output controls determine how the pedal interacts with the amplifier and pickups; a blend or noise gate can preserve clarity in heavier settings. Placement changes the result, so check whether the design is intended to push an amp, run into a clean platform or feed a direct cabinet simulation.

Analogue

Analogue products use continuous audio circuitry for some or all of the signal path, so clipping, filtering or modulation arises from physical components rather than sampled algorithms. The label does not guarantee a particular tone; component choice, headroom, bias, noise and the surrounding gain stages still matter. Check whether the switching, presets, control section or cabinet stage is digital when the exact signal path is important.
