Valeton continue their looper innovation with the VLP-400, a dual looper that offers even more performance and improvisation flexibility. Run dual loops simultaneously, launch & tweak drum rhythm accompaniment on the fly, and inject creative effects with an assignable footswitch for truly dynamic, distraction-free performance.

Key Features

  • Real-Time Dual Looping – Record, overdub, and replay two loops simultaneously with improved 32-bit playback, external footswitch support, 5-pin MIDI sync, and more.
  • Flexible Drum Machine Accompaniment – Just like its little brother, the VLP-200, this dual looper is also a drum machine, but this time it’s footswitch-controllable with 100 built-in patterns.
  • Extra Assignable Footswitch – Inject effects in seconds with an extra footswitch, from octave to freeze to fade and beyond.
  • All Your Looping Projects In One Place – Built entire setlists, albums, or collections with 99 onboard project slots, with easy import/export via Valeton’s free software.

Independent Dual-Loopers

The VLP-400 footswitch offers independent control of recording and playback for both LOOP 1 and LOOP 2. Its built-in collaboration mode (SERIAL & FREE) lets you effortlessly play two loops in parallel or switch between them, making it easy to shape your performance.

Built-In Drum Machine

The VLP-400 is equipped with a new 100-stereo drum machine that features 24-bit, 48 kHz high-quality sampling. Offering a variety of drum kits (rock, pop, jazz, electronic, metal, and more), this drum machine can be independently controlled using dedicated footswitches. When recording a phrase loop, the VLP-400 will automatically synchronize it with the drum machine’s tempo, ensuring a perfect match. The AUTO mode lets you record a phrase and then activate the drum machine, which will automatically adjust to sync with the loop’s tempo.

Intelligent Overdubbing

The VLP-400 supports intelligent doubling of overdubs, allowing you to record over the existing track multiple times. Each overdub can be controlled to be an exact multiple of the current loop duration. If the overdub duration isn’t an integer multiple, the footswitch light will flash blue, indicating that recording will automatically stop once the length matches an integer multiple. For those who prefer traditional overdubbing, the “STACK” function can be accessed by long-pressing the “ASSIGNABLE” footswitch.

Enhanced Creative Control

Compared to the VLP-200, the VLP-400 introduces ASSIGN knobs and ASSIGNABLE footswitches, offering more ways to shape your sound. With just a few knob twists, you can activate 7 effects on your loops, including OCATVE, REVERSE, FREEZE, HALF, FADE, ONCE, and SOLO. When these effects are active, the footswitch lights will glow purple. Double-tapping the ASSIGNABLE footswitch allows you to stop and start both the loop and drum machine simultaneously for more dynamic control.

Serial Mode

In SERIAL mode, when both LOOP 1 and LOOP 2 contain music segments, you can use the footswitch to control the seamless switching between them. This allows you to switch between two different sections of your song and control its structure with ease. If LOOP 1 is active, you can record a new track on LOOP 2, and it will automatically start recording after the playback of LOOP 1 ends. Reactivating LOOP 1 during LOOP 2 recording will pause the recording and immediately start LOOP 1.

Free Mode

In FREE mode, LOOP 1 and LOOP 2 operate entirely independently, with no impact on each other’s recording duration. It’s like having two fully functional, separate loopers.

Looper

A looper pedal records and plays back sections of your playing, allowing you to layer sounds and build full arrangements on your own. By capturing short or long phrases, you can create rhythm parts, harmonies, or entire backing tracks in real time. Most loopers offer basic controls for record, overdub, and playback, while advanced models include multiple tracks, tempo syncing, and memory storage for saving your loops.

Loopers are invaluable for practice, songwriting, and live performance. They help you explore ideas, refine timing, and experiment with textures — from solo acoustic performances to complex ambient soundscapes. A good looper pedal becomes an instrument in itself, letting you improvise, arrange, and perform with creativity and freedom, turning one guitar into an entire band.

MIDI

MIDI pedals use the Musical Instrument Digital Interface standard to communicate with other guitar pedals, effects units, and hardware. They allow control over presets, parameters, and switching across multiple devices from a single controller. MIDI integration makes it possible to build complex, synchronised pedal setups while keeping control simple and consistent.

New

This is brand new, fresh in, and a UK warranty is included. New Gear always comes from trusted UK music retailers.

Octave

An octave pedal shifts your guitar signal up or down by one or more octaves, blending the altered pitch with your original sound to create a fuller, more complex tone. It can add a deep, bass-like layer underneath your playing or a shimmering high octave on top for lead lines and solos. Classic analogue octave pedals often produce slightly gritty, organic sounds, while modern digital versions track more precisely and can offer multiple octave ranges.

Octave pedals are great for thickening single-note riffs, creating synth-style textures, or even mimicking bass parts when playing alone. They pair well with fuzz or overdrive pedals for massive, harmonically rich tones. Whether you’re after vintage Hendrix-style octave fuzz or a modern polyphonic sound that tracks chords cleanly, an octave pedal opens up a world of creative possibilities and adds real weight and character to your tone.

Volume

Volume pedals control the output level of a guitar signal using a foot-operated treadle. They allow smooth volume swells, dynamic control during playing, and easy muting between songs. Volume pedals can be placed at different points in the signal chain to either control overall loudness or adjust gain and drive behaviour when positioned before distortion or overdrive pedals.
