Forget everything you know about delay pedals — the Ibanez Layer Delayer is here to flip the script! Instead of your standard tape echo vibes, this beast dishes out quarter-note delays alongside 16th notes and triplets, each with its own volume control. That means you can build complex, rhythmic textures that sound like nothing else out there.

Want to shape your sound? The Tone knob lets you glide between digital, analogue and tape-style delays. While the Filter control brings in that classic Moog-style low-pass magic — from smooth and warm to edgy and resonant. And if that’s not enough, there’s an FX loop so you can throw your favourite pedals into the mix for even more sonic madness. No matter if you play guitar, bass, keys or craft beats in the studio, the Layer Delayer brings a fresh, creative edge to your sound.

Key Features

  • Delay signal volumes: The delay time is set to a quarter note, and the pedal generates corresponding 16th note and triplet delay signals. Each delay signal can be independently boosted up to 3dB.
  • Tone: This effect transitions between three distinct delay types: digital, analogue and tape echo, offering a rich and evolving sonic palette.
  • Filter: This effect emulates the classic low-pass ladder filter, a hallmark of Moog synthesizers. High resonance with adjustable cutoff frequency delivers the distinctive, edgy character of the Moog ladder filter. Zero resonance provides a more standard low-pass filter response.
  • Tail Decay: Want your repeats to linger after you hit bypass? Tail Decay lets you control how long the echoes hang around — from instant cut-off to lush, sustained trails.
  • Auto-panning: Take full advantage of stereo outs with 8 auto-panning modes, including left-to-right sweeps and ping-pong effects. Adjust width and speed for dynamic movement across the stereo field.
  • MIDI: You can control all the parameters in the Layer Delayer using MIDI controllers. It also supports MIDI clock message that synchronizes the delay time.

Delay Pedals

Delay records the incoming signal for a chosen interval and repeats it after the original note. Feedback returns repeats to the delay line, while tone, filtering, modulation and saturation determine whether echoes remain clear, darken progressively, wobble like tape or degrade like analogue bucket-brigade circuits. Delay time and rhythmic subdivisions govern the spacing and musical pattern of the repeats.

Tags

Analogue

The signal is shaped by continuously varying electronic circuitry rather than being converted into a digital effect algorithm. Component choice, operating voltage and circuit tolerances influence headroom, noise, clipping texture and the small variations in response between designs.

Bass

Voiced or equipped to retain low-frequency fundamentals and the higher headroom of a bass signal. Clean blends, crossovers and bass-specific filter ranges can preserve weight and articulation while the effected portion adds harmonics, movement or ambience.

Digital

Converts the signal or control process into numerical data for algorithmic processing. Digital designs can provide precise timing, long memory, complex routing and repeatable presets; sample rate, conversion, internal resolution and latency influence fidelity and response.
