Chief noisemakers Death By Audio and Rainger FX have teamed up to make the loudest, gnarliest, lo-fi distortion and amp simulation pedal: the Amp Crash. This is controlled chaos. Housed in the stompbox is a real 3-watt amplifier, 2-inch speaker and microphone that together generate harmonics, feedback, compression and artefacts. It captures the speaker moving air to blend with your signal to your taste, giving you all sorts of wild tones. The Amp Crash is a highly creative and dynamic pedal, responding and fighting against your signal – be it a guitar, bass, synth or other electronic instrument. A brilliant experimental effect for recording, practicing and experimenting. Rainger FX collaboration The project couldn’t have happened without David from Rainger FX’s initial idea to put a mic inside a pedal to blend ambient room sound with your guitar signal for harmonics and overtones. From there, they thought: what would happen if the pedal had its own speaker? The speaker and microphone interact like a real amp in the room at its limit, ready to explode (not literally). It really is a little combo amp on your pedalboard capable of touch-sensitive overdrive, a wall of fuzz, gritty harmonic feedback and pure madness, all with added mind-bending effects. Amazingly versatile combo amp and individual effect You can use the Amp Crash as a standalone amp, playing out and about or around the home. You can also incorporate this little monster into your pedal setup, hooking it up to an external speaker. There’s great finetuning intensity thanks to the mic out and DI out level controls. Effects within the effect Select between reverb, echo and chorus for a unique flavour to colour your tone. The reverb is a digital recreation ranging from small room to massive cave, the echo is in the form of a classic tape-style, and the chorus is a rich three-dimensional modulation touching metallic flange and lush chorus. Depth – turned fully down, the SFX are bypassed. Controls reverb blend, echo blend and feedback or chorus depth. Output – Sends the combined DI OUT and MIC OUT signals when engaged. In bypass, the input signal passes through unchanged. Ext. speaker (8Ω min) – Connect an external speaker cabinet (8Ω minimum, 3W or greater) using a speaker cable. Connecting an external speaker automatically disables the internal speaker. Note: Plugging in a headphone adapter or a disconnected cable will also disable the internal speaker while keeping the DI OUT and MIC OUT signals active.
