Made in collaboration with J.Rockett Effects and guitar legend Phil-X the PXO Boost and Overdrive offers a taste of Phil Xs signature gain tones in a pedalboard-friendly package. Its overdrive has a thick low end that you can really lean into, perfectly partnered with a sweet and musical top end. It’s an overdrive that gets better the more dynamically you play, it feels natural and responsive and hits hard the more you dig in. Its boost section with tilt EQ lets you dial in the perfect lead tone that cuts through anything! The pre or post-switch lets you choose between boosting the pedal’s overdrive circuit for even more gain and harmonics or boosting your overall signal to drive your actual amp even harder and increasing its volume.

Key Features

  • Phill-X Signature Sound – Make your amp sing with rich, thick tones and smooth, clear top-end.
  • Boost & Overdrive – Dedicated Boost and Overdrive sections, each with individual EQ and Gain controls. Use each side independently or in series.
  • Cascading Options – Versatile cascading option for pre- or post-boost to shape drive and EQ.

Here’s what J.Rockett says about the Phil-X PXO Overdrive and Boost pedal:

The PXO was created as a live or studio tool. When we sent Phil the overdrive sample he found that it saved him in backline situations and provided him a drive that plays well with others. The PXO is an overdrive/boost where you can select pre or post giving you variety in how you want to boost, EQ and overdrive. We have provided standard controls on the overdrive side such as Volume/Gain/Overdrive and EQ but on the boost side, you have a separate Tilt EQ that allows you to EQ with simplicity. You can experiment by cascading in a pre or post-situation and experiment from there. The PXO has a lush, thick feel to the bottom end and a smooth top end that begs you to dig into the note.

Boost Pedals

Boost pedals increase your signal level, helping solos stand out, pushing an amplifier harder or adding extra presence to your tone. Some boosts are clean and transparent, while others add colour, midrange, grit or brightness depending on the circuit design.

A boost pedal can be used before overdrive to add saturation, after drive pedals for a volume lift, or at the start of the chain to strengthen the guitar signal. It is one of the simplest but most useful pedals for live players and tone-shapers alike.

Overdrive Pedals

Overdrive pedals add warmth, grit and amplifier-like breakup to your guitar tone. They can be used as a light always-on tone enhancer, a bluesy crunch box, a mid-focused solo boost or a way to push a valve amp into richer saturation.

Different overdrive circuits have very different personalities, from transparent low-gain pedals to classic mid-hump designs and heavier modern drives. They are one of the most important pedal types because they respond to picking dynamics, guitar volume and the character of your amplifier.

Boost

Boost pedals and related effects are commonly used by guitarists looking to shape their tone in a more focused and creative way. Different designs offer their own response, feel and tonal character depending on the style of music and the type of amplifier or guitar being used.

Many players build pedalboards gradually over time, combining different effects and utilities to create a setup that suits their own sound and workflow. Boost related gear can play an important role in both live performance and studio recording.

Overdrive

Overdrive pedals recreate the sound of an amplifier being pushed harder, adding warmth, breakup and sustain while still responding naturally to picking dynamics and guitar volume changes. They are one of the most important and widely used pedal types in modern guitar rigs.

Different overdrive circuits offer very different flavours, from transparent low-gain boost-style pedals through to mid-focused classic rock tones and heavier amp-like saturation.
