Here’s what Earthquaker Devices say about the A/B Box Utility Pedal:

The EarthQuaker Devices A/B Box is a simple tiny tool that lets you choose between two of pretty much anything. Because of its completely passive design, there is no circuitry between the input and outputs which means it can be used in both directions. Use it to switch between two amps, switch between two channels on a multi-channel amp, use it as tuner out/mute switch, run a dry path and a wet path or even switch between two instruments! The time to passively choose is now!

Key Features

  • A/B Box Pedal
  • Passive Circuit design, for signal purity
  • Powered by regular 9 V DC PSU (centre -, 2.1 mm, 10 mA current draw – not supplied)

EarthQuaker Devices

In the current JustPedals catalogue, EarthQuaker Devices is represented by Octave Pedals, Fuzz Pedals and Overdrive Pedals. Current listings include Organizer V2, Hoof Fuzz V2 and Buffer/Splitter. That makes the range relevant to players looking for drive, gain and clipping, plus time-based effects and ambience. Check each model for its exact circuit or processing platform, controls, power requirements and connections, particularly where the catalogue includes both pedals and supporting gear.

Utility Pedals

Utility pedals perform practical signal, power or control jobs rather than one conventional musical effect. They may provide switching, buffering, routing, mute, gain, impedance conversion, noise management, tap control or connection between different pieces of equipment. Their value depends on the details: check the signal level, input and output format, bypass behaviour, power requirement, control assignment and whether the unit is intended for instrument or line-level use. A small utility can solve a board problem, but the wrong routing can add noise or incompatibility.
