The Keeley Katana has become one of the most popular boost pedals on the market. Its ability to keep your signal clear but at a lot louder volume really made this a popular pedal for those who needed a quick and easy boost. Now it is getting a make over in a new smaller casing to make this the Mini Katana.

Smaller Than Ever

While this pedal is much smaller the circuit is pretty much the same as before. It still uses the same cascading FET stages that the original pedal was designed too so you can still get your amps and guitar sound just louder. This transparent boost is about as clean and clear as they get and now it is smaller than ever before so you have no excuse not to have this on your board.

More Gain On Tap

Sometimes a clean boost isn’t quite enough for the sound you want to achieve. You either need a little bit of grit for a crunchy rhythm sound or you want to push your overdrive channel that little bit harder. On the full sized Keeley you would normally have to pull out the control knob for this extra gain but Keeley have instead opted to put it inside the sweep of the gain control meaning you hit the edge of the normal Keeley Katana mode at around 2  o’clock and after that you are getting into boosted territory.

Here’s what Keeley say about the Mini Katana Boost

MINI KATANA CLEAN BOOST!  Micro perfection sound just a bit smaller

Want a mirror image of your tone, only louder- This is it. The Katana Boost is also a fat, harmonically rich boost, just pull out on the volume knob and stretch your imagination with overdriven tone! You can keep it on all the time to push your amp harder, or as an occasional boost to cut through the mix.

Obsessed with cleanest, most enjoyable tone boosted- Well, Before other people started using Blue LED’s and non-diode clipping stages, there was the TMB and Katana…. Cascading FET stages do the tube-amp-thing like nothing else!

The Katana circuit is Robert Keeley’s first guitar effect design for Keeley Electronics.

Boost Pedals

Boost pedals increase your signal level, helping solos stand out, pushing an amplifier harder or adding extra presence to your tone. Some boosts are clean and transparent, while others add colour, midrange, grit or brightness depending on the circuit design.

A boost pedal can be used before overdrive to add saturation, after drive pedals for a volume lift, or at the start of the chain to strengthen the guitar signal. It is one of the simplest but most useful pedals for live players and tone-shapers alike.

Boost

Boost pedals and related effects are commonly used by guitarists looking to shape their tone in a more focused and creative way. Different designs offer their own response, feel and tonal character depending on the style of music and the type of amplifier or guitar being used.

Many players build pedalboards gradually over time, combining different effects and utilities to create a setup that suits their own sound and workflow. Boost related gear can play an important role in both live performance and studio recording.
