The Mad Professor Deep Blue Delay is a great pedal that sits perfectly between your drive pedal and amp. Some delay pedals like a good clean signal but this one likes things dirty. This version has a printed circuit board.

Big Sound, Small shell

The Deep Blue Delay is kept small (Width x Length x Height :69mm x 111mm x 50mm including jacks and knobs) containing just the basic delay features; Delay Time, Delay Level and Repeat controls. It was designed to work as an ambience delay; like that of a vintage tape echo and the repeat formation was specifically designed to allow easy setting and less critical setting of delay time. With delay times higher than 120ms, the delay time is sometimes set on the beat or on a multiple of the beat. Deep blue handles this by not giving full range repeats, but a tuned response that don’t need to be on the beat to sound good.

Delay your distortion

The delay is specially designed to work well with distorted tone, as this is the most critical application, where delays often fail. You can use the pedal before or after distortion. As such, it will work exceptionally well on clean sounds where requirements are less stringent, especially in terms of echo bandwidth and repeat formation.

Why digital? Isn’t Analog better?

One of the big joys out of using this pedal is the insnae amount of saturation and sustain you get out of it. There are not many drives in the world that can claim to make such a powerful overdrive that also cleans up like a dream. Just roll back your volume control or hit it with a lighter touch for a much calmer, cleaner tone.

Here’s what Mad Professor say about this pedal

Deep Blue Delay is a natural sounding digital/analog delay, with analog direct signal path. The Deep Blue Delay has about the same bandwidth as the classic tape echo units, and it can be used in front of an amplifier or in amplifier effects loops.

There are no noise reduction circuits, which keeps decay of echo as natural as possible.

The direct signal path is short and made with analog amplifiers with no filtering.

Build the Mad Professor way: small footprint and big tone.

Controls

  • LEVEL: Sets the level of delayed signal mixed with straight guitar tone, fully CCW there is only straight (un-effected) guitar signal heard and fully CW gives the loudest delay.
  • DELAY: Controls the delay time from 25ms (fully CCW) to 450ms (fully CW)
  • REPEAT: Controls the repeats of the delay signal, fully CCW gives one repeat and at fully CW you get infinite feedback.

Handcrafted in Finland, Mad Professor pedals use premium components to deliver exceptional sound with a focus on musicality and versatility. Whether you’re after a smooth overdrive or lush delay, Mad Professor pedals offer a dynamic response that inspires creativity and enhances your tone.

Delay

A delay pedal is used to create an echo effect by repeating the original sound after a short time. It works by capturing the input signal and then replaying it with adjustable delay time and feedback. The longer the delay time and the more feedback, the more pronounced the repeating echo becomes, adding depth and space to the sound.

There are different types of delay pedals, including analogue, digital, and tape delay. Analog delay provides a warmer, more natural echo, while digital delay offers clear, precise repeats and additional features like tap tempo. Tape delay mimics the sound of vintage tape machines, adding a distinctive, slightly warbled effect. Delay pedals are widely used across genres to create atmosphere, enhance solos, or add complexity to rhythms.

Pedal

A pedal is an electronic device that alters the sound of an electric guitar by applying various effects. Pedals are typically connected in a series between the guitar and amplifier, allowing guitarists to switch effects on and off with their feet while playing.

This enables musicians to quickly and easily change their sound, adding versatility and creativity to their performances.

Pedals are essential tools in many musical genres, including rock, blues, jazz, and metal, allowing artists to craft distinctive and dynamic soundscapes.

Once you buy one, you can’t stop and then you have to sell them and buy more.
