dUg Pinnick's Specifications
dUg Pinnick is 1/3 of American prog/funk metal band Kings-X. Handling bass and vocal duties, his distinct style is an integral part of the band's groundbreaking sound.
He's worked with Tech-21 before, using their gear as a pivotal part of his rig for years. This ultimately landed him his own signature amp – the Dug Ultra Bass 1000-watt head – which aimed to capture the essence of his punchy, in-your-face tone. Now he's taken it to the next level with the deceptively compact DP-3X Distortion Pedal!
As you might expect, it's based on the Dug Ultra Bass head, with an all-analog signal path, a simple selection of EQing tools and a built-in chromatic tuner. The gain control adds colour and compression in truly gritty fashion, ensuring that your bass will simultaneously sit perfectly in the mix while cutting straight through it if needed. The aim of the game here is chunky distortion laded with attitude – and it delivers spectacularly!
You've also got XLR connectivity for DI purposes, a dedicated headphone out so you can practice without compromising your tone, a Mix switch that engages the Drive and Chunk sounds for extra tonal variety, and a mid-shift button, allowing you to tweak the sound depending on the bass you're using. This really is an all-encompassing modern bass toolkit, perfect for touring, rehearsing, recording – and everything in between!
